WhileMarvelhas been dominating the superhero landscape on the big screen over the past few years, Warner Bros. andDC Comicswill launch their own shared universe in March withBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This massive adventure, which bringsBatman(Ben Affleck) andSuperman(Henry Cavill) together on the big screen for the first time, will then lead intoJustice League Part 1in 2017 andJustice League Part 2in 2019. During an interview with Obsev, directorZack Snyderwas asked ifBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicewill start a new trilogy. He claims that the the two-partJustice Leaguemovie will lead to much bigger things, including a bigger villain, hinting that Batman v Superman is actually the start of an unofficial trilogy.

“Well, listen, we’re working on Justice League right now, right? In a weird way, Justice League is the next step for these characters to form a bigger team. Maybe there’s a bigger enemy to fight?”

Of course, he wouldn’t reveal who this “bigger enemy” really is, yet, but there has already been plenty of speculation, months beforeBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicehits theaters on March 25. There have been rumors that iconicvillainssuch as Darkseid and Brainiac will be the villains inJustice League Part 1andJustice League Part 2, but neither of those characters have been confirmed yet. The director did say that the “fun” ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceis watchingBatmanandSupermantry to figure each other out.

“I think the fun of the movie is, in the end, it’s a drama. They have to figure out each other, to figure out how to fight each other. So it’s really about what makes them tick, and sort of, how that’s going to work out in a conflict. And we’ll see what happens.”

The director also had some quick praise for his new Batman. As everyone knows,Ben Affleckis taking over the role of the Dark Knight. About the actor’s performance as the caped crusader,Zack Snyderhad this to say.

“"[Affleck] is an amazing Batman….He’s a great Batman.”

Zack Snyder will direct the two-part Justice League movie, working from a script byBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticewriterChris Terrio. After this first slate of movies finishes its run in 2020, little is known about where Warner Bros.' will go from there, but we reported last year that the studio wantsBen Affleckto direct and star in a newBatmanstand alone trilogy.
