Warning: SPOILERS to follow for the Yellowstone finale.
The dust has settled. The verdict is in.Yellowstonehas now ended and fans are…not too happy about how creator Taylor Sheridan wrapped up this Western saga. Taking to social media following the finale, “Life Is a Promise,” some fans have even declared the last episode the worst ever in prestige TV history, taking over from the much-malignedGame Of Thronesfinale.
X/Twitter user@JustinRaley_15was one such fan, who declared, “It is official.Game of Thronesis no longer the worst final season of any tv show ever.Yellowstonehas taken that award. What a disaster of a final season.” Fellow user and (former) fan@authordwhitefelt similarly, believing that theYellowstonefinale is ascathing indictment of major TV showsas a whole. “I have come to the realization it might just be impossible for great television shows to have great endings. #YellowstoneTV went from making us love a White, wealthy, violent, land owner to shaking our heads at his death and his kids and everything inbetween,” they said.

@WillGrayPSN, meanwhile, was no fan of any of the final episodes. To them,Yellowstonesadly became a pale imitationof what it once was.
“#Yellowstone was so good and then it wasn’t. I mean that might be worst 3 episodes to finish a tv show I’ve ever watched. I mean fck it was just constant bullsht. Concerts, montages of pointless nonsense. Just a terrible ending to a show that started so incredibly strong.”

Did ‘Yellowstone’ Make a Mistake in Killing off Kevin Costner’s John Dutton?
A neo-Western drama created by Taylor Sheridan,Yellowstonefollows the conflicts that occur between the owners of the titular ranch and the various groups around them, all of whom want the land for their own reasons. The final season unceremoniouslykilled off its biggest draw, Kevin Costner’sJohn Dutton, and while the main series was brought to an end, threads were left hanging, ready to be picked up in further spin-offs.
A more nuanced take comes courtesy of@arcticninjapaul, who said the “finale struggled between some genuine heartfelt moments, dragged-out scenes (did we need THAT much of the Lainey Wilson performance?), and quickly tied up loose ends (including the fate of Jamie) that could’ve used some more emotional heft had things not been pushed to this point.” Nevertheless, they look to the next chapter.

“While I loved the first four seasons, this final one simply fell apart between the studio, the showrunner, and the lead, making a mess of what could’ve been and soured the legacy to some degree. Thankfully, those that remain have more than earned a place in our hearts to see them continue in some form or another. Let’s just hope the right deals can be made to keep things rolling on the wagon trail of the next journey.”
Final Season of Divisive ‘Yellowstone’ Spin-off Gets Paramount+ Release Date
We finally know when the prequel series will land on streaming.
For@AndyPalysthe blame for the disappointmentfalls at the feet of Sheridan. “The “#Yellowstone” season finale was absolute rubbish. How long did you spend writing this one #TaylorSheridan? Fifteen minutes? you’re able to blame Kevin Costner all you want, but YOU ruined the show, you self righteous, greedy piece of garbage,” they said. Others, such as@Seanperez007are not looking forward to what comes next, saying, “The finale of #Yellowstone was terrible. Do we really care about Beth and Cole enough to see a spinoff? No! The show was terrible once Costner left.”

Thankfully, it wasn’t all bad, with@darkmessiah2000saying, “TheYellowstoneseries finale was so f**king good,” and praising the “scene of the Native Americans returning the ranch to nature” as “beautiful.”@JosephPallotta, meanwhile, keeps things simple, saying, “I enjoyed the season finale ofYellowstoneThere are some that didn’t care for it too much I don’t agree but I see their point I just enjoyed the show.”
Yellowstone
Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner and centers on his character John Dutton. Dutton and his family live on a cattle ranch just a few hours away from Yellowstone National Park. The series chronicles the family’s struggle to defend their home from an Indian reservation and land developers. As if their life wasn’t complicated enough, the Duttons also have medical issues, political aspirations, and family secrets stacked against them.
