We haven’t heard much about 20th Century Fox’sWolverine 3in quite some time, aside fromX-Men Origins: WolverinestarLiev Schreiberconfirming that he’s been in talks with the studio to reprise his role asSabretooth. We know thatHugh Jackmanis returning for his final performance as the title character, withPatrick Stewartalso coming back as Professor X. Today we have a new report fromDeadlinethat revealsNarcosstarBoyd Holbrookhas closed a deal to play the primary villain.
The actor is reportedly playing the head of security for a “global enterprise,” who squares off againstHugh Jackman’s Wolverine. It isn’t known for sure if this character has roots in theMarvel Comics, or if he was created specifically for this movie. There have been rumors that this story will be adapted from theOld Man Logancomics, where Logan loses his mutant powers and starts to age for the first time. That report has never been confirmed, but with shooting now scheduled to begin this May, hopefully we’ll learn more about the plot.

James Mangoldis directing from a script that was most recently worked on byDavid James Kelly.Michael Green(Alien: Covenant,Untitled Blade Runner Project) came aboard to write the script last year, but it isn’t known ifDavid James Kellyrewrote the script completely from scratch, or if there will be any elements fromMichael Green’s script in the finished product. It isn’t known where exactly production will take place, or how many other roles still need to be cast.
Wolverine 3has been given a March 3, 2017release dateby 20th Century Fox. The project currently doesn’t have any direct competition at thebox officequite yet, but it will open one week before 20th Century Fox’sBoss Babyand Warner Bros.‘Kong: Skull Island. The superhero adventure will also open one week after Paramount’sGod Particle.
