‘The Night Agent’ Season 3 Will Make Several Cast Changes

The third season ofThe Night Agentwill make someimportant cast changes. Speaking to Deadline, series creator Shawn Ryan established that although they want the seasons to feel separate, there will undoubtedly be some carryover that also applies to the actors. While viewers can expect some cast members to make a definite return, along with some fresh faces, the future of others seems somewhat murky at the time of writing.

The charismatic protagonist of the series,Peter Sutherland, will once again be brought to life by Gabriel Basso, guaranteeing his definite return in Season 3. Basso will be joined byLouis Herthum, who played Jacob Monroe, the latest antagonist in the series. Others who are making a definite return includeAmanda Warren, who plays Catherine Weaver,Fola Evans-Akingbola, playing Chelsea Arrington, andWard Hortonin his role as the scheming Governor Hagan, poised to become the President of the United States in Season 3. Along with Albert Jones, Evans-Akingbola and Horton have been upgraded to series regulars.

New faces joiningThe Night Agentcast include Jennifer Morrison (One upon a Time),Stephen Moyer (True Blood),David Lyons (Revolution),Genesis Rodriguez (Umbrella Academy),Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi),and Callum Vinson (Chucky).

Falling into the ‘fate unknown’ category at the time of writing isMarwan Kenzari, who played Sami in Season 2, and, unfortunately for fans who wanted to see more of Peter Sutherland’s romantic side,Luciane Buchanan, who portrays Rose Larkin.Speaking about Rose’s return in Season 3, Ryan said:

An edit of ‘Black Doves,’ with Keira Knightley playing Helen and Gabriel Basso playing Peter Sutherland in ‘The Night Agent’

“What I would say is that we don’t want to artificially create a situation where characters have to be part of a specific season on a regular basis. We want to tell the story that feels true in that moment. I am very aware that one of the big strengths of Season 1 — and what I think is a big strength in Season 2 — are Peter and Rose together…Their shared trauma from these first two seasons has built this incredible bond. But is it enough to overcome the difference in their lives and their lifestyles Is something that we spend a lot of time talking about. So, not trying to duck the question, but we’re still creatively looking into all that. "

The Plot of ‘The Night Agent’ Season 3

The ending ofThe Night AgentSeason 2set up several possible narratives for Season 3. Peter, who was under investigation for breaking into the UN and leaking information to Jacob Monroe, was offered a chance by Catherine to redeem himself. In line with that thread, viewers can likely expect to see Peter follow in the footsteps of his father and take on the role of a double agent in Season 3.

If You’re Already Missing ‘Black Doves,’ Netflix Has the Perfect Replacement

‘The Night Agent’ is a thriller series to binge during the ‘Black Doves’ drought.

However, Catherine also wanted Peter to keep his mission off the record, meaningPeter will have less access to both government resources and protection. This may mean that Peter gets into more trouble than he did in Season 2. His mission of investigating Monroe’s hand in getting Hagan elected also indicates that Season 3 may be more espionage-centered. However,The Night Agentwould not be the series that it is without the explosive action, and therefore, audiences will undoubtedly be treated to a healthy dose of action alongside the conspiratorial espionage.

Rose and Peter in The Night Agent Season 2

Additionally, as can be ascertained from series creator Shawn Ryan’s claims to Deadline,Peter may not have anything going for him on the romantic front in the new season — at least with Rose. Season 2 saw Peter seemingly cut all ties with Rose, asking her not to wait for his call and forget about him. Coupled with Ryan’s comments about the undecided status of Buchanan’s return in Season 3, viewers may see much less of the determined Rose Larkin than they did in Seasons 1 and 2. The new season is likely to center primarily on Peter as an agent as he takes on a new world of villains and conspiracies.

When Will ‘The Night Agent’ Season 3 Be Released?

Although the renewal ofThe Night Agentfor a third season was announced three months ahead of Season 2’s premiere, a release date for the new season has not been confirmed. However,it is expected that Season 3 will premiere sometime in early 2026.

Where You’ve Seen the Cast of Netflix’s ‘The Night Agent’ Season 2 Before

The cast of ‘The Night Agent’ Season 2 is completely different from Season 1, with some familiar faces.

Filming for Season 3 was already underway in Istanbul in 2024, and expected to move to New York in 2025. Given the early start made with Season 3, it is expected that the gap between Season 2 and 3 will be much shorter than that of Season 1 and 2. While the delay of Season 2’s release can be attributed to the 2023 writers' strike, which halted production for the series midway,Deadline reported in October 2024that “fans won’t have to wait that long for Season 3” as Netflix had commissioned a writers' room to work on the new season at the time.
