Godzilla: King of the Monstersdirector Michael Dougherty wants to include two more Toho monsters in a possibleGodzilla 3. Dougherty recently finished the final cut of his upcoming project, and from all of the promotional material that we have seen, it looks truly epic. Godzilla is back with a slightly updated tail and feet, along with King Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra, who all look incredible. Dougherty and his team look like they have come up with a worthy follow up to Gareth Edwards' 2014Godzillamovie.
In a recent interview to promoteGodzilla: King of the Monsters, Michael Dougherty revealed that he’d love to use Toho monsters Biollante and Gigan for a possible third installment. Dougherty is not attached toGodzilla 3at this time, but it seems as if he’s open to taking on a third movie, which will more than likely be revealed after the box office run for the latest movie and 2020’sGodzilla vs. Kong. In addition to naming Biollante and Gigan for a future movie, the director said that Anguirus and MechaGodzilla are some of his favorite monsters.
Giganis a pretty famousGodzillamonster who has teamed up with King Ghidorah in the past. The monster has large blades for hands and has faced Godzilla on more than one occasion. Godzilla and Anguirus teamed up to fight King Ghidorah and Gigan for 1972’sGodzilla vs. Gigan. The villainous monster is a fan-favorite and would probably be welcomed with open arms if it makes it intoGodzilla 3. The inclusion of Gigan would make a lot of sense, and it could end up introducing Anguirus at the same time.
As forBiollante, he has only appeared in 1989’sGodzilla vs. Biollante. The monster is genetically engineered, made up of human DNA, Godzilla, and a rose. Biollante is a plant-like monster and known as one of the biggest that Godzilla has ever faced, which is really saying something. Out of the two new suggestions, Biollante is definitely on the weirder side, which could also make for an interesting third installment in the Godzilla franchise. However, it isn’t clear which monsters will be used forGodzilla 3at this time, or if the movie will end up happening at all.
IfGodzilla: King of the Monstersproves to be a hit at the box office, a third Godzilla movie will more than likely happen. Additionally, if everything works out, it seems likeMike Doughertywould be open to returning to add Biollante and Gigan. Who knows, maybe Anguirus and MechaGodzilla will show up too. For now,Godzilla: King of the Monstershits theaters on May 31st, whileGodzilla vs. Kongopens in 2020, which should also be a big hit at the box office. King Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra look like they will be plenty of a challenge for Godzilla while we wait to see the Kong battle.
