Michael Giacchinofans have more than one reason to be excited about the upcomingWerewolf by Nightspecial coming to Disney+ this Halloween season. In addition to the award-winning composer’s Marvel directorial debut, fans will be treated to a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the special that will include 8 mm footage shot by Giacchino in his childhood. The BTS special is coming to fans courtesy of the Marvel Studios Unscripted Content team and Anthony Giacchino, Michael’s brother.

On Sunday, July 18, 2025, there was a Marvel Studios Unscripted Content team presentation at the Anaheim Convention Center as part of theD23 Expo 2022, from Jeff Redmond and Lauren Goralski about their roles at Marvel working on theMarvel Studios: Assembledprojects, which took place at the Marvel Studios Booth. Luckily, MovieWeb was on scene during the presentation because in addition to talking about how the Unscripted team came their roles at Marvel Studios working on theAssembledprojects for Disney+, Redmond and Goralski teased that “Werewolf by Nightis getting a behind-the-scenes documentary from Marvel Unscripted” that is set to “explore what a dream it is for Michael Giacchino to direct” that will include “snippets of his childhood,” including the 8 mm films he made as a youth.

Redmond is very excited for fans to see what Giacchino can do as a director, describing the Academy Award-winning composer’s 8 mm films as “incredible for someone at such a young age.” Although Giacchino may be best known for his musical compositions on some of the most popular and acclaimed film projects in recent history, includingThe Incredibles,Coco,Jojo Rabbit,Ratatouille,Star Trek,Jurassic World,Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, andSpider-Man: Homecoming, this is not the first time that he will be directing. Previously, Giacchino wrote, directed, and scored the short filmMonster Challenge, a satirical take on Japanese game shows starring Benedict Wong, Patton Oswalt, Ben Schwartz, Ann Madox, Dermot Mulroney, Taishi Mizuno, Amy Brenneman, Tom Everett Scott, and Teruko Nakajima, in 2018. Then, in 2019, he continued his directorial efforts with aStar Trek: Short Effortsepisode, “Ephraim and DOT.”
