“As a seasoned horror fan that has been fed decades of rinse-and-repeat Hollywood horror drek, I can say Weapons is a horror masterpiece. Ignore the negative reviews. The structure is fantastic. The story is fantastic. The acting is fantastic. The resolution is also pretty darn fantastic. It’s not slow. It’s not overly funny (the humor is well-placed and well-timed). AND everything is FULLY explained. If you didn’t get it, see it again and pay attention. It’s all there. Go in as blind as you’re able to. Ignore the negative reviews, and be entertained. This is the best horror movie in at least the last 10 years.”

Starring the likes of Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Cary Christopher, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan,Weaponsfocuses on 17 school children who mysteriously run away on the same night, and a community left to question who or what is behind their disappearance. Chalked full of intrigue, it’s the rare horror movie that features ambitious storytelling that doesn’t insult the audience’s intelligence, delivering a more cerebral experience than anything else.

A plethora of other folks chimed in to callWeaponstheir favorite movie of the year so far, while even more people praised Cregger’s direction, saying the film has excellent cinematography that creates an unsettling feeling while watching it. That’s the mark of a good director right there, as those that can use the camera to help tell their story often find success in the genre. One only has to look to John Carpenter to realize that.

Suffice to say,Weaponsis all it promises to be, which bodes well not only for fans, but for Cregger’s future. Next up for him is a newResident Evilmovie, so it’ll be interesting to see how the director fares playing in someone else’s sandbox instead of creating a world from scratch.
