Wayne’s Worlddirector Penelope Spheeris has addressed the possibility of a third outing, suggesting that it could follow a similar path to recent slacker sequel,Bill and Ted Face the Music. In an interview withPopCulture.com, Spheeris played it coy when discussing a potentialWayne’s World 3, but did suggest that those fans who want to see it should send their requests directly to Paramount.

“I don’t know. People send me storylines for Wayne’s World 3 and my answer to them is, ‘It’s called intellectual property, guys, and that belongs to Paramount. So why don’t you send your idea to Paramount?'”

It seems that fans of Mike Myers’ Wayne and Dana Carvey’s Garth have been sending Spheeris their ideas for a long-awaited third movie. An idea that the filmmaker is on board with though is the beloved duo as fathers in a similar vein to howKeanu Reevesand Alex Winter returned for 2020’sBill and Ted Face the Music.

“People send me [pictures], if they’ve got twins or something, they’ll send me [their kids] dressed up as Wayne and Garth, a little 3-year-old or whatever. It would be really cool to see young kids as Wayne and Garth running around, but still have the older dads around.”

Directed by Penelope Spheeris, produced by Lorne Michaels, written byMike Myersand Bonnie & Terry Turner, and starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, the firstWayne’s Worldwas released way, way back in 1992. Following slacker, rock and roll fans Wayne and Garth, the hosts of late-night cable-access show Wayne’s World, the movie was well-received by critics and quickly became a huge hit for fans thanks to the combination of silly comedy and endearing characters.

A sequel,Wayne’s World 2, came the following year. While not as highly regarded as the first movie, discussions regarding a possibleWayne’s World 3have been happening ever since. The comparison between Wayne and Garth and Bill and Ted has long followed both slacker duos, and now that the return of the latter has demonstrated how it could be done, the cries forWayne’s World 3are bound to get even louder.

Penelope Spheeris is Still Stunned by the Popularity of Wayne’s World

Regardless of whetherWayne’s World 3ever comes to fruition, Spheeris is still riding high on the popularity of the first movie, something which she is still surprised by. Wayne’s World is set to be re-released in a new, limited-edition format, and Spheeris can’t quite believe it.

“It’s funny because even when they’re not releasing a new product, people talk about Wayne’s World to me,” Spheeris said. “It just lives on and on and on. It is amazing because when we did the movie, we weren’t like, ‘Oh man, we’re going to make this really big hit. We’re all going to be famous for 30 years.’ We didn’t think that. We thought, ‘Oh hopefully we’ll get three or four theaters, and maybe it’ll last a week.’ We had no idea that it would last this long and people would still love it. But I know I am very, very grateful for it.”

TheWayne’s Worldduorecently returned for an Uber Eats Super Bowl Teaser. So, could Mike Myers and Dana Carvey be persuaded to come back again for more excellent party time inWayne’s World 3?
