In 1995, we were midway through a movie decade that still hadn’t quite found its own identity 5 years removed from the 80s, which resulted in more than a few cheesy action movies that took themselves a little too seriously. They prided themselves on patriotism before 9/11 really pushed that point home. And they didn’t have the same visual effects prowess that most modern blockbusters do today. They had to rely on good old fashion explosions in real time and non-CGI action. There was no motion capture back in 1995 that would allow an actor likeJames Spaderto create a character like Ultron. So what wouldAvengers: Age of Ultronhave looked like way back then? A new trailer attempts to find that out on what would have been it’s 20th Anniversary.
Complete with a Disney logo scrapped from an old VHS tape,Avengers: Age of Ultronis reimagined as the hottest, edgiest, explosion-iest action hit of 1995. This retro remix of the movie’s official trailer comes courtesy of Louis Plamondon, also known Sleepy Skunk. All of our heroes are here, ready to fight the good fight, but their latest mission is a little less hi-tech and a lot more gritty.

It was joined by Judge Dredd, which was a commercial bomb. With the only two superhero movies on such opposite sides of the box office spectrum, its hard to call whereAvengers 2might have dropped.
