While the Republican and Democratic National Conventions won’t be held until next month, this year’s presidential candidates are presumably locked up.Hillary Clintonis expected to be announced as the Democratic candidate, while formerCelebrity ApprenticehostDonald Trumpis likely set to be the Republican nominee. During last night’s episode ofLate Show With Stephen Colbert, the talk show host took matters into his own hand to stop a potentialTrumppresidency, with the help ofQuantum LeapstarScott Bakula.
Earlier this month, we looked back on the obscureTrump cameoinBobby Brown’s music video for “On My Own” from theGhostbusters IIsoundtrack, but just a few years later, there was a much more obscure, yet timely reference to the real estate mogul in a 1992 episode ofQuantum Leap. The episode featuresScott Bakula’s Sam Beckett as a New York City cab driver in 1958, who starts making conversation with a young boy about how there could be huge skycrapers in the Big Apple some day. Beckett learns after this boy and his family leave the cab, the the boy was none other thanDonald Trump.
In a new sketch that was posted on theLate Show’sYouTube,Stephen Colbertdecides to put an end to all of this Trump madness by using his ownQuantum Leapdevice, with a special appearance fromScott Bakulahimself as Sam Beckett. After picking up the young Trump, Sam tries to correct the course of history by making a number of suggestions to the youngster, although it only makes matters worse, according to the computer “Ziggy.” While this sketch is ultimately ahumorous parody, it’s also quite frightening to imagine these scenarios with Trump in charge.
Quantum Leapran for five seasons between 1989 and 1993, which followed Sam Beckett as he leaped into the bodies of different people, in order to change the course of history for the better. He’s joined on his weekly journeys by Admiral Al Calavicci (Dean Stockwell), who only Sam could see in the form of a hologram. Al was also guided by a computer device dubbed Ziggy, which would calculate the outcomes of the future based on the decisions Sam made.
While we’ll have to wait until November to see ifDonald Trumpwill be our next President, don’t be surprised to see more parodies like this spring up. We’ve already seen what it would look like ifTrumpruledWesterosin aGame of Thronesparody, so we’ll have to wait and see what else comes up between now and the November elections.
