The long-awaited sequel to the 1998 classic will see the return of starsSandra BullockandNicole Kidman, and follows the plot of author Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel,The Book of Secrets, which sees “a multi-generational family of witches, cursed to be loveless for centuries, attempting to break the spell by confronting dark secrets and sacrificing for each other.”
Warner Bros. Pictures broke the news today on their social media accounts (seen below), revealing next year’s release date forPractical Magic 2. To coincide with the announcement, they shared a teaser featuring the voices of Bullock and Kidman reading spell-like prose that dissolved amidst a black screen filled with smoke.
“Tooth of wolf and morning dew, something old and something new. Let the spell begin to mix, July 24, 2025.”

News of thePractical Magicsequelbroke in June 2024, with Warner Bros. confirming its development. At the time, Bullock and Kidman were said to be in talks to reprise their respective roles of Sally and Gillian Owens, but were announced to officially be returning shortly thereafter. The original 1998 film wasn’t a box-office smash by any stretch of the imagination, as it only managed to take in $68 million against a budget of $75 million dollars. Still, the film has earned a cult-following over the years as it has grown to include generations of fans that have been bewitched by the romantic fantasy.
Practical Magic Has a “Sisterhood” of Loyal Fans
According to producer Denise Di Nova,Practical Magic 2isn’t looking to “reinvent the wheel,” and will remain faithful to Hoffman’s novel. “We’re cognizant of how important those characters and that movie is to so many people,” she told Entertainment Weekly last year. Speakingwith MovieWeb around that same time, she also mentioned that the reason the first film managed to strike a chord with so many people over the years is because of its universal themes that include family, love, joy, and beauty.
“I think we know what people love about the movie, and thankfully, the fans are very expressive. If you looked at TikTok after the announcement, you’d know. I think we’ve had a lot of time to think about why that movie is still so resonant for people. And it’s pretty clear, you know, it’s sisterhood, it’s family, it’s being authentic to your true self, even if you don’t fit in. It’s finding the beauty and magic in everyday life, the practical aspect of magic.”
To her point, fans are already taking to social media to express their excitement over the news ofPractical Magic 2’s impending release, saying that they’re definitely going to be seated when the film premieres.
