Ever since the show launched in 2010, AMC’sThe Walking Deadhas been an instant hit, with a massive fan base that keeps growing and growing. Some times, success on the small screen leads to a transition on the big screen, with TV hits such asThe X-FilesandThe Simpsonsputting out big screen movies while the shows were still on the air.The Walking DeadshowrunnerScott M. Gimplerevealed in a recent interview that he thinks aWalking Dead moviecould actually happen one day, but he doesn’t know when that may be.

The Walking Deadis easily the biggest show on cable, averaging over 12 million viewers per episode, and some nights, it even gives most Sunday night shows on broadcast networks a run for their money. The show has already been renewed for Season 8 on AMC, withRobert Kirkman’s comic books still running, with plenty of material still remaining to delve into with the TV series, which would span up to Season 11 at this current point in the comics.ComicBook.comspoke with executive producer and showrunnerScott M. Gimple, who teased that the question about aWalking Deadmovie often comes up, but he doesn’t know when it will happen. Here’s what he had to say, joking which movie stars he’d like to cast in the movie version ofThe Walking Dead.

“That question comes up every now and again. I’m sure one way or another, one day, it’ll happen. I think it would be cool.William Shatneras Rick. We’ll getEdward James Olmosas Daryl. Hit all the big shows! Matthew Fox asThe Governor!”

Even if a movie does happen, it remains to be seen if it would actually be set in the current timeline of the hitzombie series, or if it would take an entirely new direction. AMC’s prequel seriesFear the Walking Dead, which is set on the other side of the country thanThe Walking Dead, is another big hit for the network, with the third season set to debut next year on AMC. It’s clear that aWalking Deadmovie certainly isn’t a priority for anyone involved in the show at this point, but it’s possible that could change as the show continues.

For now, though, since the show continues to put upstrong ratingsweek after week, don’t expect AMC or the show’s writers, producers and directors to put any effort forth into aWalking Deadmovie. This current season ofThe Walking Deadwill continue withGo Getters, airing Sunday, November 20 at 9 PM ET on AMC. Regardless of whether or not the movie happens,The Walking Deadlikely won’t come off the air any time soon.
