Fear the Walking Deadhas just broken down some major walls forThe Walking Dead, as the spin-off series in the shared universe used the F-word for the first time in last Sunday’s episode. One of the biggest differences between the comics and the hit AMC show is the lack of curse words from the main villain,Negan. That’s not to say thatThe Walking Deadhasn’t used some pretty colorful language over the course of the last 7 seasons, but it’s the spin-off series that has introduced AMC to the F-word, which is sure to follow in the premiere ofThe Walking DeadSeason 8.
According toComicBook.com,Fear the Walking Deadshowrunner, Dave Erickson, has revealed just exactly how the show was able to pull of using the mother of all curse words. Erickson explains.
“You get a specific number of curse words you can say, and then there’s a list of what you can and can’t do. I think it was our script coordinator who told me there was an email had come up; there had been a memo saying we could now say “f—” twice over the course of an entire season.”
The most interesting part besides letting everyone know thatFear the Walking Deadhasn’t used up its F-word quota yet, was that the policy also extends toThe Walking Dead. Erickson says he’s not sure how it all happened behind the scenes at AMC, but it is official.
This means that Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan} is going to be able to say 2 F-bombs in theThe Walking Dead Season 8. Some fans have expressed disappointment in the decision while other fans are ready and excited to see Negan reach his full word bank. At any rate, we’re going have to wait until the end of October to see if Negan starts using his new vocabulary word during the course of the first episode of Season 8. Though the word is allowed on AMC now, the Blu-ray editions of the show do not contain any other colorful language in the unrated discs.
That being said, it is most definitely Negan who has been the biggest victim of the swearing cull. Turning the pages ofRobert Kirkman’s comic bookofThe Walking Dead, one can barely turn a full page without the leader of the Saviors peppering his sentences with the F-word. Someone with a lot of extra time on their hands did the math for Issues number 100 through number 148 and Negan says “f%$@ing” a total of 282 times, followed by the simplified “f%@k” at 117 times. Other favorite words included a few mentions of the C-word and a number of other colorful utterances.
While AMC’sThe Walking DeadandFear the Walking Deadare now allowed to drop 2 F-bombs per season, it isn’t clear if other shows on the network will be allowed to follow suit. But it would be odd if the other shows weren’t allowed to join in on the fun.The Walking Deadreturns for Season 8 on October 22nd, 2017 with its new and improved language.
