While we’re just a few months away from Warner Bros. launching theirDC Comicsmovie universe, a new project is moving forward on the small screen, which puts a new spin on the superhero landscape. Back in August, NBC issued a pilot production commitment for a workplace comedy entitledPowerless. NowTV Linereports the potential series has added its first cast member,Vanessa Hudgens. The series is set at one of the worst insurance companies in America, which is set within theDC Comicsuniverse.

Vanessa Hudgenswill play Emily Locke, a claims adjuster who loves her job because it gives her the ability to help people in need. She becomes increasingly frustrated by the destructive antics of various DC heroes in her city. The project will be a half-hour single-cameracomedy seriesfrom creator Ben Queen, who previously created NBC’s short-lived sitcom A to Z.

Deadline’s report on the series from August compared the project to NBC’s iconic sitcomThe Office, but withsuperheroes. The show will focus on Emily and others who don’t have superpowers, who reside in a world populated by superheroes and villains. The site’s August report claimed that fans shouldn’t expect DC’s biggest heroes like Batman and Superman, but there will be some as-of-yet undetermined DC characters appearing on the show.

Back in October, it was announced thatMarvelis developing its own comedy series at ABC entitledDamage Control, which, likePowerless, is set in a world of superheroes. This series follows the crew assigned to clean up the wreckage after various disasters caused by the heroes. It isn’t known when that series will start production, or when it may debut on ABC, but we also reported last month that the network is working on a second, unannounced comedy project.
