Just over 12 years after the theatrical feature filmLemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Eventshit the big screen,Count Olaf, the Baudelaire siblings and Lemony Snicket himself will return on the small screen. Netflix will debut their new TV showA Series of Unfortunate Eventsstarting January 13. To get fans ready, the streaming service has debuted a new trailer and photos. This trailer gives fans a new look atPatrick Warburtonas Lemony Snicket, who takes an unusual approach to promoting his dire show.

Netflixdebuted this trailer on YouTube, which showsPatrick Warburton’s Lemony Snicket introducing himself, trying to get fans to actually look away from this footage. The beloved literary character exclaims that this “cinematic tease” is filled with “disturbed plots, villainous, frightful deeds and an absurd amount of child endangerment.” After asking if fans really want to sit through every “horrid episode,” he asks fans to “be a dear, and look away.” In the original novels byDaniel Handler, Lemony Snicket has described himself as a coward, and while it makes sense for the character to want fans to look away, it serves as a unique marketing ploy, with the narrator actively trying to get fans not to watch the show.
