Starring in a movie whose tagline reads “Vengeance Becomes Her,”Jessica Albais the latest in a long line of stars who have headlined a film made exclusively for a streaming platform. Released on June 21,Trigger Warningis an action thriller that shows Alba’s character, Parker, returning home afterhearing about her father’s death. The story circulating among the townspeople is that her father was suddenly forgetful while in the mine shaft located on their property and had an unfortunate accident resulting in an explosion. After some drinking, smoking, and emotional processing,Parker sets out to find the truthand discovers there is a lot more involved with her father’s death than just memory issues.

The problem is thatTrigger Warninghasn’t been met with the greatest audience reception. While we can’t fix the many issues critics point out when it comes to this movie (and there are a lot), there is possibly another film deep within Alba’s past that may theoretically add some fun lore tothis Netflix flick. Surprisingly, it’s a family-friendly adventure film that stars Randy Quaid as an overworking father and Henry Winkler (yes, Fonzi fromHappy Days) as a tech CEO who sells to terrorists. Strap into your Augmentor 1000, folks; we’re going on a wild ride through time.

Jessica Alba Stops Illegal Arms Dealers – And Terrorists

Originally premiering on The Disney Channel in January 1999 (but technically not aDisney Channel-affiliated movie),P.U.N.K.Swas a cheesy but enjoyable story about five teens who team up to protect the underdog – with liberty and justice for all. Besides an 18-year-old Jessica Alba becoming part of this same group, actors Tim Redwine, Kenneth A. Brown, Patrick Renna, and Brandon Baker come together to save Drew’s (Redwine’s character) father from the clutches of Edward Crow’s (Henry Winkler’s character)evil fictional company, Crow Inc.

Crow plans on using Drew’s father (an employee) as a guinea pig to demonstrate his new invention – the Augmentor (which can give a person superhuman strength and endurance). He then plans to sell this high-tech backpack to the highest bidder, be it Saddam, Dick, or Harry.

Jessica Alba’s Latest Action Film Defies Critics to Dominate Netflix

Jessica Alba’s comeback action film, Trigger Warning, blasts through Netflix’s Global charts.

Before we even begin diving into story similarities involving Jessica Alba’s character,Crow’s true intent with the Augmentor already sounds similar to what the Swann family is up to inTrigger Warning. Fortunately, the head of Crow Inc. never actually goes through with the deal, thanks to Drew and Samantha’s quick thinking. On the other hand, Elvis Swann is already selling stolen military equipment to illegal arms dealers even beforeTrigger Warningbegins. Perhaps that is why Parker isn’t so scared when faced with the reality of the situation of what’s happening deep within her father’s mine – she was already face to face with the sametype of criminalyears ago.

Trigger Warningalso shows that even faced with insurmountable odds and imminent danger, Alba’s character is great at sneaking around places she shouldn’t be. Whether at the detention center, the Swann compound, or the military depot, Parker knows how to get around places where she’s not wanted.Young Samantha inP.U.N.K.Sinherits this same skillwhen infiltrating Crow Inc. to steal a version of the Augmentor.

The stakes are never made out to be life or death, but Crow security does come with rifles at the ready. When we meet Samantha for the first time (she is Jonny’s cousin), she is already repossessing cars for her father, knows her way around a toolbox, and can break into a safe. Even though she does acknowledge that she and her cousin have criminal records at one point inP.U.N.K.S, having to slyly run away from people with guns definitely teaches you how to keep cool under pressure.

AsTrigger Warningshows, we don’t know where Parker ended up past 14 (as the age carvings on the rock wall end there). But as Samantha is old enough to drive a car inP.U.N.K.S, those two years (to 16) could have been spent traveling with her father looking for odd jobs until he established his repo yard. Speaking of being an expert with cars,Alba’s character inTrigger Warningalso shares this trait. Not only is she seen manually splicing engine wires together in both films, but she also recognizes a stolen vehicle early on inTrigger Warning, which harkens back to her repo expertise.

Jessica Alba and Trigger Warning Director Discuss Her Return to Action Cinema

Jessica Alba and director Mouly Surya spoke with MovieWeb’s Will Sayre about the Netflix action movie Trigger Warning.

It may be a surprise that one ofJessica Alba’s earliest filmsmay be connected to her most recent one, at least through coincidence, but the links can be made. Name changes can easily be explained by possible run-ins with the law – for those who are still stuck on the Samantha and Parker name switch. But alas, this may be a sequel for a more perfect world.WhileP.U.N.K.Scan be seen on YouTube orTubifor free,Trigger Warningis available to stream onNetflix.
