A year after it was canceled by ABC, Tim Allen’sLast Man Standinghas officially been picked up by Fox for its 7th Season. Tim Allen hinted thatthe hit show could be coming backthis week on social media, which ramped up the excitement considerably. The news comes after Fox canceledBrooklyn Nine-NineandThe Last Man on Earth, angering the many fans of those shows. However, it looks likeBrooklyn Nine-Ninecould be making a return on NBC, if all goes as planned.
Deadline reports that Fox has closed the deal to bringLast Man Standingover to the network for the 2018 to 2019 season for its 7th Season. Additionally, the report states that most of the show’s core cast is back, including Allen, Nancy Travis, Jonathan Adams, Amanda Fuller, Christoph Sanders, and Jordan Masterson. Hector Elizondo is also reportedly set to return to the hit show. The talks between the show and Fox have been going on for a while and Tim Allen is ecstatic. He had this to say.
“Excited? Team LMS was in the sixth inning, ahead by four runs, stands were packed and then for no reason, they call off the game. It leaves you sitting in the dugout, holding a bat and puzzled. Now we get the news from Fox that it’s time to get back out on that diamond - hell yes, I’m excited!”
Last Man Standingwascanceled by ABC last yearafter the 6th Season and Tim Allen, along with fans of the show, were very vocal about their displeasure with the network for canceling the show. Allen spoke openly about it in interviews and fans started petitions that ultimately gained the attention of Fox. Now that the deal is officially in place andLast Man Standingis returning, Tim Allen is thanking all of the fans for their support. He says.
“When I heard the offer to create more episodes ofLast Man Standing, I did a fist pump so hard I threw my back out. It’s the fans! I could not be more grateful for the fans who wrote petitions and kept up the passion and incredible support for the show. And a fist pump, ouch, for Dana Walden and Gary Newman at Fox for not only listening to the fans, but for making the bold move to bring Last Man Standing back. I’m sure audiences will be curious to see what we look like after all these years. Oh, has it only been one year? Well, just goes to show you - a lot can happen in a year.”
Last Man Standingwas ABC’s second most-watched sitcom and averaged around 8 million viewers per episode. So, the cancellation came out of left field for the audience as well as the cast and crew of the show. As it turns out, Fox initially wanted to immediately acquireLast Man Standing, but they couldn’t find a place for it in the scheduling.
