Followingthe release of the first trailerfor the third season ofThe Witcher, it has now been confirmed that season three will be released in two parts. Alongside the first sight of Henry Cavill’s swansong as Geralt of Rivia, the new teaser reveals that the first part ofThe Witcherseason three will be released onNetflixon June 29, with the second half landing on the streaming platform on July 27.

Now titledVolume 1andVolume 2,the first part will consist of five episodes while the second part will be made up of three episodes. The confirmation of a break in the series comes following months of speculation that Netflix will stretch outThe Witcherseason three and thus give audiences what will feel like a little more time with Henry Cavill’s hugely popular iteration of the character.

Cavill made the surprise announcement that hewill walk away fromThe Witcherlast year saying, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4.” The actor went on to reveal thatThe Hunger GamesandIndependence Day: Resurgencestar Liam Hemsworth will pick up the mantle from season four and beyond. “As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men,” Cavill continued. “Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

The Witcher Season 3 Finds Geralt Determined to Protect His Family

“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it,” the official synopsis for season three ofThe Witcherreads. “Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”

The Witchershowrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich meanwhile has teased the “new energy” that will come whenLiam Hemsworth takes over the roleof Geralt in the fourth season. “I’m so excited for viewers. I think that it’s just a new chapter for us,” she said of the change in lead actor. “And I think new chapters bring new energy and that people will find things to love. So yeah, personally, I’m really excited.”

So, once again, volume one ofThe Witcherseason three will now debut on Netflix on June 29, with volume two landing on the platform on July 27. No doubt many fans of the show will be tuning in to see Henry Cavill lead the way for the final time.
