2025 is the year ofStephen King, with four different feature films and one television show each being adapted from one of his books. Whether it was the short storyThe Monkeythat was made into a film by Osgood Perkins early in the year, or Mike Flanagan’s heartfelt adaptation ofthe Life of Chuck, or Francis Lawrence’s filmThe Long Walk, King’s bibliography has become a source of inspiration for writers and directors to bring his unique visions to life. One highly anticipated adaptation isThe Running Man, which is directed byEdgar Wright. However, fans will have to wait a little longer to see Wright’s vision for King’s novel come to life, as the film has been pushed back to a later release date.
According to a new report fromDeadline,The Running Manwill now be released in theaters on November 14, a week later than its original release date of November 7. According to the outlet, this was done to enable the film to take full advantage of a premium format theatrical run, allowing it to utilize the IMAX screensat its disposal. The movie features an all-star cast, withGlen Powellstarring as Ben Richards, supported by Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Michael Cera, Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, William H. Macy, and many more.

The Running Manis Edgar Wright’s first film since 2021, when the famed filmmaker released his psychological horror movieLast Night in Soho. Wright’s adaptation was announced that same year, when the director revealed that it was less a remake of the original1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzeneggerand more of a faithful adaptation of Stephen King’s original novel. Thankfully, the release has been pushed back by only seven days and will now allow fans of Wright’s or King’s work (or both) to experienceThe Running Manon the biggest screen possible.
‘The Running Man’ Switching Release Dates Makes Sense
The release date change for Wright’s movie makes sense, as another big project was set to release on the same day:Disney and 20th Century Studios’Predator: Badlands. Following the massive critical success that Dan Trachtenberg’sPreyultimately became, as well as its impressive streaming debut, the Studio decided to move forward with another installment, releasing it in theaters this time around, including an IMAX release window. Rather than have both movies fighting for premium screens, they will both get to thrive in theaters.
The Running Manappears to be Edgar Wright’s most technically ambitious movie yet, as the first trailer for the filmshowcased some impressive stunts and camera workworthy of Stephen King’s novel. Glen Powell has slowly been on the rise after starring in movies likeTwistersandTop Gun: Maverick, with this starring role inThe Running Manhopefully cementing him as one of the next big action stars.
