Star Wars 9 is officially finished. J.J. Abrams made the announcement this morning. In addition, we now have a better look at some cameos in the highly anticipated threequel. Disney and Lucasfilm also released the first official clip from the movie today, which showcased the flying Stormtroopers, aka Jet Troopers or Rocket Troopers. The Resistance seemed to be just as surprised as the rest of us to learn that The First Order can take to the skies now. We’re now less than a month away from the premiere and the excitement is starting to build.
John Williams announced that he finished theStar Wars 9 scorelast week, so it was expected that the post-production phase was nearing completion too. J.J. Abrams confirmed that he finished the final cut over the weekend, which falls in line with when he finishedThe Force Awakensback in 2015. Abrams also confirmed reshoots were still happening in October. SomeStar Warsfans felt the reshoots were a sign of trouble, but this is a common practice when working on a movie of this magnitude.
Lucasfilm released a special look atThe Rise of Skywalkerover the weekend and it teased some of the cameos. Multi-award winning singer/actor Lin-Manuel Miranda and Grammy winner Ed Sheeran were both spotted in the special look at the upcoming movie. Miranda appears to be a member of The Resistance and will probably have a briefStar Wars cameo. As for Sheeran, he was spotted in a Stormtrooper costume, which means he won’t be serenading anyone with a guitar like he did in hisGame of Thronescameo. While these are great additions to theStar Warsuniverse, fans are hoping that one particular person ends up making it into the movie.
While not shown in the special look atThe Rise of Skywalker, Warwick Davis is someone that needs a cameo, though he probably won’t get aStormtrooper cameo. When asked about the possibility, he simply said, “It would be terrific, wouldn’t it, to see me in there.” Davis has been a part of theStar Warsuniverse sinceReturn of the Jediand has been in nearly everything since then. The actor believes that “coming in to doing the later films, fromThe Force AwakensintoRogue OneandSolo, andThe Last Jedi,” feel more like it did working onReturn of the Jediin terms of practical movie making.
It’s almost guaranteed that Warwick Davis has a part inThe Rise of Skywalker, we’re just going to have to wait and see. The actor isn’t going to spoil anything, but admits he’s very excited to see how J.J. Abrams wrapped everything up and so are a lot of fans. The movie is still very much shrouded in mystery at this point in time, which is a good thing. The wait is nearly over and then that’s it for the Skywalker Saga.
