Unfortunately forPredatorfans,Benicio Del Tororecently had to drop out ofShane Black’s upcoming fourth entry in the franchise. Fortunately, Fox already has a plan to replace the actor. According to a new report,NarcosstarBoyd Holbrookis being eyed by the studio to step into the role thatBenicio Del Torowas set to take on.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news thatBenicio Del Torohad to departPredator 4. Shortly thereafter, they reported thatBoyd Holbrookwould be trying to fill those very big shoes.Benicio Del Torois clearly a bigger star thanBoyd Holbrook, but his star power is rising, having starred inGone Girlas well as the Netflix hit seriesNarcos. He will get a real boost next year when the Wolverine movieLogancomes out, whichBoyd Holbrookplays the villain in.
Details have been incredibly scarce forThe Predator, whichShane Blackhas been working on for quite some time now. It seemed like things were finally getting some traction when it was announced thatBenicio Del Torowas circling the lead role, with Fox even pushing back filming to try and accommodate his schedule. The reason for why he had to exit the project wasn’t reported, but his schedule definitely seems to be a problem. He will appear inStar Wars Episode VIII, which may require reshoots and will definitely require a massive press tour. Plus he is supposed to star in the upcomingSicariosequel, making it difficult to squeeze inThe Predator, which will need to start filming soon if Fox intends to stick to their current release date.
Boyd Holbrookhas yet to officially sign on for the project, but it seems less likely things would fall through with him. At the current moment, not a single cast member has been confirmed forThe Predator, but rumors ofJames Francoand original franchise starArnold Schwarzeneggerjoining have bounced around. We don’t exactly know whoBoyd Holbrookwill be playing, but during a Q&A with Empire a few months ago,Shane Blackrevealed that the hero of the movie would be namedQuinn Mackenna, so that is a strong possibility.
Outside of this potential casting news, we know very little about the upcomingPredator sequel. We know it won’t be a reboot, that it will be released in IMAX and that the working title during production will beOllie, which really only raises more questions. A poster was also released back in February which featured the famed alien underneath text that read: “You’ll never see him coming.“The Predatoris currently set for release on Aug 06, 2025.
