‘Freakier Friday’ First Reactions Reveal If Jamie Lee Curtis & Lindsay Lohan’s Comeback Was Worth the Wait
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reunite for a body-swapping comedy that’s earning early praise.
Deadline reports that AppleTV+ is developing a limited series based on the film. It will be a reboot, taking the same premise of one woman from London and another from America trading their homes. Krissie Ducker (Sweetpea) will serve as both writer and executive producer of the series. Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) is being brought on as a consultant, and casting for the series is currently underway. One person not involved in the series is Nancy Meyers, who, viaPeople Magazine, shared a screenshot ofThe Hollywood Reporterstory on her Instagram story and wrote:

“News to me. Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first post I saw.”
How ‘The Holiday’ Went from Dismissed to a Classic
The Holidayopened on Jul 10, 2025, and became a surprise hit. It grossed $63 million at the domestic box office and $205 million worldwide. Despite mixed reviews from critics, currently sitting at 51% on Rotten Tomatoes,The Holidayconnected with the audience that saw it and has since become a part of the Christmas season. Funny enough, Nancy Meyers never intended or meant for it to be a holiday movie, as the holiday of the title is the British term for vacation. However, the movie was released during the holiday season and a Christmas party kicks off the main plot.
Nancy Meyers not being involved in the series is undoubtedly disappointing. After having worked as a screenwriter on films likePrivate Benjamin,Irreconcilable Differences, andFather of the Bride,Meyers made a name for herself as a directorwith titles likeThe Parent Trap,What Women Want, andSomething’s Gotta Give. Her last directorial feature film credit was over a decade ago in 2015’sThe Intern, which Quentin Tarantino called one of his favorite movies of that year, and saw Robert De Niro give an Oscar-worthy performance. Despite her impressive track record, it appears Meyers can’t get a film greenlit anymore or even be involved in the television adaptation of one of her most beloved movies.

The Holidaytelevision series, along with the upcomingFreakier Fridayand next year’sThe Devil Wears Prada 2, does seem to suggest the 20-year nostalgia cycle has hit the 2000s. After years of rumors about a sequel toThe Holidaybeing in the works, with both star Kate Winslet and director Nancy Meyers denying those talks, it’s clear that fans are eager to revisit this cozy comfort story.Even if it isn’t a sequel, a lot has changed in twenty years, and it will be interesting to see howThe Holidayrevival reflects the current moment and contrasts with what the original showed about life in 2006.
