The Greatis one of Hulu’s most popular series, and it’s finally returning this year. With Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult returning to reprise their roles as Queen Catherine and her humorous husband Peter, Season 3 of this series is sure to be a charming time in Imperial Russia.The Greathas won people overwith the amazing chemistrybetween the show’s two leads and has gone on to be nominated for several awards. After a year-long wait for a new season to premiere, fans ofThe Greatwill finally be pleased to hear that the show is returning to Hulu this year.
The GreatSeason 3 promises a continuation of the “almost entirely untrue story” loosely based on Russia’s greatest female ruler Catherine the Great. Hulu announced that the new season will have ten episodes, so there’s plenty of time for more royal drama in the upcoming season. And with season 2’s big cliffhanger, fans can’t wait to see what will happen in this “anti-historical” series.The Greatperfectly blends comedy with a fun interpretationof what historical eventscould have been, and if you haven’t seen it already, you should give it a shot.
The Great Season 3: The Plot
The Great’s plot is still shrouded in mystery, but we can guess how Season 3 will go judging by the end of Season 2. An interview with series creator Tony McNamara also gives us a prospective direction for Season 3. The series seems to always be about Catherine and Peter’s competing love for each other and their love for power. Despite them both being attracted to one another, they keep trying to murder each other. How crass. Though, it seems we might be on the edge of these two leading characters becoming more reformed versions of themselves. But there are difficulties with that too, from pressure from the court todifficulties with foreign politics.

Season 3 will probably see Catherine and Peter trying to find some way they can live together. Peter promised last season to try and be a better person, and Catherine was crying as she stabbed that Peter look-a-like in the back. Both of them seem to want their love to work more than anything else. Reinforcing their right to rule is a goal that always comes from other members of the court pressuring them to do so. If there are going to be any murder plots this upcoming season, they may come from outside those with a claim to the throne. Catherine has also begun leaning into more nonviolent solutions for her political troubles. So any kind of conspiracies or prompts for cruelty will likely come from other sources. The show’s creator Tony McNamara did an interview withEntertainment Weeklyat the end of Season 2 and discussed the season’s end.
“We end the [second] season with everyone in a very, very different place. I guess the third season is very much about the court and about the next level of leadership for Catherine and Peter deciding what sort of guy he’s ultimately going to be.”
The GreatSeason 3 looks like it’s going to be more of a struggle for peace rather than a civil war in the golden palace. We might see characters having difficulties trying to mature as people instead of having difficulties killing each other. Season 3 may be about personal growth under the threat of violence from other political agents.
The Great Season 3: Cast
The cast ofThe Greatwill remain largely the same, with a few possible additions in Season 3. Fans can expect all their favorites to return, as noleading members of the royal courthave been killed or exiled yet. Some of them may be in prison, but they’re still technically alive. Elle Fanning will obviously be returning as Catherine the Great and Nicholas Hoult will return to spout humorous quips as Peter because the show just wouldn’t be the same without them. Nicholas Hoult explained to Entertainment Weekly how his competitive nature helps him and Fanning to have great chemistry while acting.
“The characters of Catherine and Peter are always trying to one-up each other. Elle and I have a healthy habit of doing the same to each other as actors. Within scenes, we’re completely supportive and trying to get the best from each other — but also at the same time, battling within it and having fun.”

The other major members of the cast will be returning as well. Phoebe Fox will reprise her role as Marial. Sacha Dhawan will be back as Count Orlo. Belinda Bromilow will return as Aunt Elizabeth. Adam Godley will be back as Archie. Gwilym Lee will reprise his role as Grigor Dymov. Charity Wakefield will return as Georgina. Douglas Hodge will return to his role as General Velementov. Bayo Gbadamosi will play Arkady, and Florence Keith-Roach will be back as Tatyana.

The Greatdoes not have an official release date. But Hulu’s 2023 trailer showed a lot of clips from the series, meaning we can expectThe Greatto come out sometime this year.
