David Leitch’s lovable action comedyThe Fall Guywill be tumbling onto streaming sooner rather than later, according toVariety. There’s still a little bit of a wait, but come August 30, the charming genre-blender will be available to watch on Peacock. And not just the movie that (not enough) peoplesaw on the big screen, but the extended version that was available for rental and is on the 4K UHD home media release, as well.

And it’s worth noting that, unlike the seemingly innumerable R-rated comedies that have released extended editions on home media over the years, the extended cut of the PG-13 ratedThe Fall Guyis a worthy expansion. And, fortunately, the 20 extra minutes don’t hinder the pacing of the tightly written film. In other words, even at 146 minutes, it’ll breeze by thanks to the charm of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, not to mention the cinematography and Leitch’s typically energetic direction.

The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy is an action thriller from Bullet Train and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch. Ryan Gosling stars as a stuntman who is forced to find a missing movie star, investigate a conspiracy, and repair his relationship with the love of his life. The film was written by Drew Pearce and inspired by the 1980s TV series of the same name.

What is The Fall Guy About?

The Fall Guyfollows Gosling’s Colt Seavers, a veteran Hollywood stuntman who suffers a career-ending injury after the conceited lead star of his newest project requests an unnecessary second take. And, worse for Colt, it happened in front of the love of his life: cinematographer Jody Moreno. Now that same conceited leading man, Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), is leading Jody’s directorial debut,Metalstorm. But, throwing a major wrench into the production is the fact that Ryder has gone missing.

Ryan Gosling’s stunt double, Ben Jenkin, praises the actor for doing that 150-foot drop: “He was so game to do lots of things.”

Colt finds this out after he’s called in by Ryder’s agent, Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham) who also happens to beMetalstorm’s producer. It’s a headache, but Colt sees an opportunity to win back Jody’s heart, as without Ryder, her directorial debut is a goner. And, when one’s first movie sinks, so too does their career.

It’s a love letter to cinema and, more specifically, to thestunt performers who make these big blockbusterspossible. Unlike the names and faces on the posters, these are the performers whose names are not only forgotten, but hardly ever remembered at all. It’s the type of movie that can only be crafted by someone who has worked as a stunt performer, which is how Leitch got his start in the industry. That intimacy with the material bleeds through every shot, makingThe Fall Guyone of the major winners of 2024’s summer movie season.
