The season three finale forNight Courtleft viewers with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that reunited a couple from another sitcom. Season 3, Episode 18, titled “A Decent Proposal,” brings two actors fromThe Big Bang Theorytogether: Melissa Rauch, who’s the star oftheNight Courtreboot, and Simon Helberg. The reveal could have huge repercussions for the rest of the series (assumingNight Courtgets renewed by NBC). While it’s not the first instance of an actor fromThe Big Bang Theoryappearing onNight Court, it’s one of the most exciting for a few reasons.

Season 3’s Finale Reunites Bernadette With Howard

Melissa Rauch and Simon Helberg famously played the couple of Bernadette and Howard onThe Big Bang Theory. After the show ended, Melissa Rauchmoved on to the sitcomNight Court, where she plays the main judge, Abby Stone. Rauch plays a completely different character inNight Court, so it’s a big surprise when her husband from another series shows up unannounced.

In the Season 3 finale ofNight Court, Abby’s on-and-off boyfriend Jake (Ryan Hansen) is planning to propose to her. Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) accidentally spoils the news to Abby, and she seems excited for a brief moment.Suddenly, Simon Helberg’s mysterious character, Spencer, enters Abby’s office and kisses her.Jake also enters Abby’s office to propose to her, but he sees the two kissing and demands to know what’s happening. Abby tells Jake that Simon Helberg’s character is her husband, and he holds up his hand, which has a ring, to prove it.

The episode ends there, with “To be continued” flashing across the screen. The reveal is a huge cliffhanger, as no one knew Abby had a husband. She’s dated quite a few characters throughout the series, so it seems strange for her not to mention that she was married. Viewers may never know who Simon Helberg’s character is, asNight Courthas to get renewed before they can explain next season. Hopefully,Night Courtdoes get renewed, as Melissa RauchtoldTV Insiderthat the writers have a “spectacular plan” for Helberg, and Rauch has been wanting to bring him on the show for a while.

It’s Nice To See Them as Friendlier Characters

Just because Howard and Bernadette were two of the most prominent characters onThe Big Bang Theorydoesn’t mean they were always beloved. Howard and Bernadette were both quite toxic, even to their friends. Bernadette has a PhD in microbiology, but it seems like she might have been studying how to be mean with how many hurtful comments she makes throughout the series. Howard is even worse, as he’s a constant womanizer and can be quite vindictive when he doesn’t get his way. It’s unsurprising that they end up together, given all their characters' flaws, but even in their relationship, they frequently go behind each other’s backs.

Night Courtgives both actors a chance to play characters who aren’t as toxic. InNight Court, Melissa Rauch’s character, Abby, is much nicer than Bernadette. In fact, Abby only acts judgmental when she has to do her job, which is being a judge. She also tries to grow throughout the series, whereasBernadette was more of a static character. Simon Helberg’s character is still mysterious, but he already seems like a better-adjusted character than Howard. That’s not a hard task, but just from the looks of it, Helberg’s character seems like he has more self-respect than Howard, and that’s a pretty big deal.

This episode is the first time all three have appeared together.

After ‘Georgie & Mandy,’ This ‘Big Bang Theory’ Character Would Be Perfect for a Spin-Off

As an audience favorite from ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and someone with plenty of scope for new antics, many fans would love to see Raj have his own show.

In “A Decent Proposal,“Raegan Revord shows up in court as a teen with the fake name “Sylvia Plath.” She and her boyfriend, “Batman,” ran away from home, hoping to get married, but they were caught with fake IDs. Abby makes it her new goal to convince these teens not to get married as she tries to scare them with the harsh realities of getting jobs, having children, and more. Even when other characters tell her to give up, Abby continues to be stubborn about telling the teens they’re wrong. Perhaps Abby had a teen marriage in her past, and that’s how she’s technically married to Spencer, with Spencer only returning so they can get a divorce. However, she does scare the teens by the end of the episode, and they both agree to go home.
