PerCollider, the actors teased revisiting the series during an appearance at the Creation Honolulu Convention, something that has been rumored several times in the past. When asked what he thought Sam and Dean would be up to now, Padalecki said:

“I have some ideas, and I hope that now that the writers are back, and the actors are back, that we all get together… "

Ackles added:

“Stay tuned on that. There are some conversations regarding that conversation that are being had.”

WhetherSupernaturalwill return for a 16th season or some kind of special remains to be seen, but Ackles seems to have an idea of how the continuation could unfold. Last year, theGen Vactor toldSyfy Wire:

“I have this lofty dream of when, after things have settled, we’ll tackle one more case as Sam and Dean. [Maybe] a nice 10-episode short-order for HBO Max – I’m just saying. Like a whole ‘True Detective’meets ‘Supernatural.’ It’s right there.”

Has Supernatural Just Been on Pause?

Jensen Ackles has never shied away from expressing his willingness to step back into the shoes of Dean Winchester. With over 300 episodes, Supernatural achieved things that most genre shows can only dream of, but Ackles previously suggested that despite the definite end of the Winchesters in the season 15 finale, he did not really see it as the end of the series. While speaking toCinePOP, Ackles said:

“Touching on rebooting ‘Supernatural,’ yeah, I don’t think that was something – I don’t think Jared and I hung up the boots, so to speak, as a permanent move. It was more of like, 15 years, we need to just press pause. It’s a long time, and come up for air and see what that looks like, and this is what it looks like. But what the future holds – yeah, I definitely think he and I would be up for talking about that.”

Post-Supernatural,Ackles reprised the role of Dean forThe Winchesters, a prequel spinoff set in the 1970s that centered on the untold love story between Sam and Dean’s parents. Ackles served as the series narrator and executive produced the show, which was canceled after just one season. Hehas also appeared inThe BoysandGen V(which reunited him withSupernaturalcreator Eric Kripke), andBig Sky. He has also voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman for several animated DC features.

Padalecki currently stars in another CW series, the neo-WesternWalker(a reboot of the 1990s Chuck Norris-led seriesWalker, Texas Ranger),which was renewed for a fourth season in May. Aside from starring as the titular character, he serves as an executive producer for the series.
