Supergirlseason 5 has been given a new return date by The CW. The ArrowVerse series was set to return with a new episode later this month. However, the network has done some shuffling around and Melissa Benoist won’t be suiting back up as the iconic DC Comics superhero until next month. But when the show does return, it will be with Benoist behind the camera as well.

The CW originally slottedSupergirlseason 5 for a return on Sunday, April 26. Instead, the show will now come back a week later on May 3. The other previously announcedArrowVersereturn dates remain in place for now.Batwomanwill still be coming back on April 26, whileThe Flashseason 6 andLegends of Tomorrowseason 5 will both return on Tuesday, April 21. No specific reason for the change was revealed, but it may have something to do with the interrupted production schedule and how that will impact the rest of the season.

The vast majority of TV shows havehad to shut down production, given the current situation the world finds itself in. BothBatwomanandSupegirlshut down temporarily in mid-March. There is no word currently on when they will be able to resume filming. This has already had an impact on many shows, with theSupernaturalseries finale being delayed as a result, for example. Depending on how long the shutdown lasts, it could end up shorteningSupergirlseason 5’s episode count. While The CW scrambles to sort out its schedule more dates are likely to shift.

Supergirlwill be coming back with a new episode titledDeus Lex Machina. It will seeJon Cryer returning as Lex Luthor, for one. But more importantly, it will serve as Melissa Benoist’s directorial debut on the series. The episode sees Lex as he proceeds to lay an intricate plan to bring Lena (Katie McGrath) closer to him, defeat Leviathan’s latest attack, and pit Supergirl and team against Leviathan. It will also be revealed how Lex came into power after theCrisis on Infinite Eartscrossover. Melissa Benoist. The cast for the series also includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair, Azie Tesfai and David Harewood.Supergirloriginated on CBS, but the network decided not to pick up the show following its first season. The CW had alreadyfound success with DC showslikeArrowandThe Flash, so they picked up for season 2, which proved to be a good decision, as Kara Zor-El has been going strong ever since.
