OneStranger Thingsstar was celebrating the release of Season 2 on Netflix perhaps a little too hard this past week. Actor Charlie Heaton, who playsWill’s protective older brotherJonathan, was detained at LAX and denied entry into the U.S. after cocaine was found to be in his possession. Jaime Ruiz, branch chief of strategic media engagement for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, had this to say about the incident.

“Foreign nationals may be inadmissible due to the commission of a crime involving drug possession. CBP officers treat all international travelers with integrity, respect and professionalism while keeping the highest standards of security.”

Law enforcement has confirmed that traces of cocaine where found on Heaton’s person. The actor later admitted that he’d participated in ‘consumption of the drugs’ to these same law officials. This is particularly bad, because Charlie Heaton is a British citizen. And he was rejected from entering the country.

So, if you were wondering whyJonathan Byerswas a no show at Netflix’s big premiere in Los Angeles forStranger Things Season 2, here’s your answer. Ruiz explained toThe Hollywood Reporterthat there are 60 specific grounds for inadmissibility into the United States, and drug possession is one of them.

These 60 grounds are split into very specific categories that include ‘health-related, prior criminal convictions, security reasons, public charge, labor certification, illegal entrants and immigration violations, documentation requirements, and miscellaneous grounds’.

Charlie Heaton has an expanded role onStranger ThingsSeason 2 this season. His Jonathan Byers has self-appointed himself as Will’s guardian after the younger boy emerged from the Upside Down. He still has a crush on Nancy, as the two set out to discover some of thebigger secrets behind Hawkin’s Lab. Charlie Heaton was not available for comment.

All 9 episodes ofStranger ThingsSeason 2 began streaming this past Thursday at midnight, with new episodes already a big hit with fans. Charlie Heaton has transitioned from the small screen to the big screen with a key role in one of 20th Fox’s biggest 2018 releases. The actor will next be seen as the popular mutant Cannonball in theX-Menspin-offNew Mutants, which is being called Marvel’s first true horror movie. It’s unclear what will happened following this drug bust. But Charlie Heaton has already wrapped onNew Mutants, and by all accounts he will return inStranger Things 3as one of the main cast.
