Dave Filoniseems to have had his finger on the pulse of what makes a goodStar Warsproduct for a while now, but despite being one of the creative forces behindStar Wars’recent years, it seems he can still spilt fans very easily. Ahead of the release ofAhsokaon Disney+, Filoni appeared ina promotion of the seriesand in it made the very brave and bold claim that Anakin Skywalker is the “single greatest Jedi of all time.” The internet responded as you would expect.

Using the term “single greatest” anything is always going to stir up plenty of heated debate among fans of even the smallest franchise, so throwing out those words in relation to theStar Warsuniverse is just asking for trouble. While there were those happy to stand by Filoni’s statement, the overriding sentiment was simply that he was completely wrong. Some of the reactions can be seen below.

Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith.

Of course, every discussion like this comes down the different strokes for different folks, evenJar Jar Binkshas his (very, very small) fanbase who would die on their own hill to defend the character. When it comes to the belief that Anakin is the greatest of a long line of Jedi to grace theStar Warsfranchise, there are arguments both for and against the statement, but probably not enough ever definitively end the debate that Filoni has started ahead of Anakin’s appearance inAhsoka.

Ahsoka Will See Hayden Christensen Return as Anakin.

The journey of Anakin Skywalker is one that took many decades to fully reveal, but after a ropey startHayden Christensen has become loved among fansfor his portrayal of the character, appearing most recently in Disney+ seriesObi-Wan Kenobialongside Ewan McGregor. While that series had a specific story to tell, Anakin’s place inAhsokais currently unknown, but it could be one of the last times Christensen gets to play the part.

After coming back into theStar Warsfold after so many years, Christensen recently discussed his thoughts on Anakin’s transformation into Darth Vader inObi-Wan Kenobi, explaining:

“I think we understood what Anakin was going through, and why he was making some choices that perhaps weren’t the best, and the circumstances surrounding his life. So it was a very understandable fall to the dark side, but it humanized him and made him a real person and almost somewhat of a pathetic person in a lot of ways. And you feel for Darth Vader now in a different way, too. Because it’s this man trapped in this life that perhaps he didn’t really want.”

Ahsokais due to debut on Disney+ this August, but you can catch up on the entireStar Warssaga, including its many TV off-shoots includingObi-Wan KenobiandThe Mandalorianin the meantime.
