WithRogue One: A Star Wars Storyfinally hitting theaters this week, all eyes are on the very first everStar Warsstandalone from Disney and Lucasfilm. However, withStar Wars: Episode VIIIcoming out in just about a year, fans are just as eager for any kind of information related to that movie, like an official title for example. Well, in a roundabout way, Disney may have revealed the title forStar Wars 8.
AVS Forumis reporting that Lucasfilm has filed a trademark to the European Union Intellectual Property Office that very well could reveal the title forStar Wars: Episode VIII. According to the report, assuming this trademark is actually the secret title for the follow-up toStar Wars: The Force Awakens, the title would beStar Wars: Forces of Destiny. The title was included in the trademark filing among a massive list of about 2,000 words, consisting of clothing, toys and other items related to futureStar Warsendeavors.

With that said, Disney and Lucasfilm have a ton ofStar Warsrelated projects on the burner, so it is far from confirmed thatStar Wars: Forces of Destinywill actually wind up being the title forStar Wars: Episode VIII. In all honesty, it sounds more like a video game or perhaps some sort of animated series or something. It really would be a potentially cheesy sounding and underwhelming title for the movie. A couple of the other rumored titles forStar Wars 8have includedTale Of The Jedi TempleandThe Order Of The Dark Side, both of which would seem to be a little be more believable. Though,Forces of Destinycould sort of be seen as a reference to Rey’s progression, sinceThe Force Awakensdefinitely referred to her and now that she has “awakened” she will be progressing with her Jedi training, it seems.
Disney purchased all ofLucasfilmback in 2012 for more than $4 billion, primarily so that they could make a ton of newStar Warsmovies over the next who knows how many years. In the four years since the studio made the purchase, we have seen only one new movie in the form ofStar Wars: The Force Awakens, butRogue One: A Star Wars Storyjust had its world premiere and has been met with rave reviews so far. That should be encouraging to fans, but it is definitely encouraging to Disney, so expect for them to start planning the future ofStar Warsfar beyondStar Wars: Episode VIIIand (IX}.

At the moment, very little is known aboutRian Johnson’s follow up toThe Force Awakens. Disney is clearly and understandably focusing heavily onRogue One: A Star Wars Storyright now, so it seems like we will be learning a lot Wars: Episode VIIIafter that movie hits theaters. Maybe we will even see a teaser before Rogue One? Or at the very least, maybe a title confirmation sometime next week after the movie opens. We’ll have to wait and see. The movie starsDaisy Ridley,John Boyega,Carrie Fisher,Mark Hamill,Oscar Isaac,Benicio Del Toro,Laura DernandAdam Driver.Star Wars: Episode VIIIis set for release on August 11, 2025.
