Ever since production started onStar Wars: Episode VIIIback in February, there have been no shortage of rumors swirling around the Pinewood Studios set. Just yesterday, a slew of new, yet unconfirmed plot details surfaced, which revealed that Rey (Daisy Ridley) will start her Jedi training with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in this sequel. Today we have yet another unconfirmed report which doesn’t shed much light on the story, but does offer new details about the costumes both Rey and Luke will be wearing.
As you surely know by now,Star Wars: The Force Awakensends with Rey finally coming face-to-face with Luke Skywalker, who has been in exile at a secretJeditemple for many years. When principal photography first got under way at Pinewood Studios, LucasFilm shared a video featuring scenes that were shot months earlier at Skellig Michael Island, the site of Luke’s sacred Jedi temple, which revealed thatStar Wars: Episode VIIIwill pick up immediately afterStar Wars: The Force Awakensleaves off. Today’s report fromMaking Star Warsreveals a number of details about both Rey and Luke’s new costumes, but the most intriguing part of their report mentions that Luke will be wearing that iconic black glove, as first seen inReturn of the Jedi.

The black glove was used to cover up the metallic hand Luke put in place after his father Darth Vader cut off Luke’s hand inThe Empire Strikes Back. DuringRey’s Force visioninStar Wars: The Force Awakens, we saw a metallic hand being placed on R2-D2, which represented Luke placing the missing part of the map to Luke’s whereabouts inside this beloved droid. This report also reveals that Luke is wearing a much different, and darker, tunic than the gray robes we saw him wearing at the end ofThe Force Awakens.
Luke’s costume is said to be more similar to the “cut and color” of hisReturn of the Jedicostume, with his “undertunic” described as similar to Count Dooku’s, although he has a dark grey cape that covers his chest and shoulders like a shawl. This design leaves his right arm free, but half of his chest is covered by the cape, which is said to be much like the asymmetrical design ofCaptain Phasma’s cape. This design allows Luke to fight freely with his right hand, while his left is covered by the cape.

As for Rey’s costume, this report claims it’s quite similar to her look at the very end ofStar Wars: The Force Awakens, with grey capri pants, boots and arm wraps. However, she is no longer wearing a vest, which has been replaced by an off-white tunic that somewhat matches Luke’s look.Reywill also be wearing her hair down in the movie, and she still carries the gun that Han Solo gave her inThe Force Awakens. A few Twitter users even took it upon themselves to create artistic renditions of these costumes, based on the descriptions from the original report, which you can check out below. Of course, these details haven’t been confirmed, and these drawings aren’t official by any means, so we’ll have to wait and see how accurate both the descriptions and drawings may be.
