Exactly 50 years ago today, on August 05, 2025, the very first episode ofStar TrekentitledThe Man Trap, aired on NBC. Fans have been celebrating the 50th Anniversary of this iconic franchise all year long, which included special panels at Comic-Con and, of course, the release of the latest movieStar Trek Beyond. Today, as fans around the world wish this franchise a happy golden birthday, a new trailer has surfaced featuring some of the best moments in a half century ofStar Trek.
The trailer was posted on the franchise’s social media platforms likeTwitterand Facebook, and these channels even encouraged fans to send out their best selfies, using Spock’s iconicVulcan salute. The franchise Twitter page has been retweeting some of their favorite responses all day, including a few from franchise veterans likeKarl Urban, who plays Bones in the current film franchise, the iconicWilliam Shatner,Nichelle Nichols,George Takeiand many more.Sterling K. Brown,Justin HartleyandSusan Kelechi Watsonfrom NBC’s upcoming seriesThis Is Useven took a selfie from Stage 32 on the Paramount lot, where both their show shoots now, and the originalStar Trekwas shot.
Last weekend, CBS Interactive Products teamed with ReedPop for a50th Anniversary convention. This three-day event was filled with interactive exhibits, exclusive merchandise, celebrity guests, panels, screenings and much more. While this iconic franchise will no doubt have an enduring legend that will surely last another 50 years, it will continue to grow with a new TV series debuting next year.
Bryan Fuller, the creator of hit shows likeHannibalandPushing Daisies, will debut the newStar Trek TV seriesentitledStar Trek Discoveryon CBS in January 2017. After this special preview, the show will debut on the brand new streaming service CBS All Access. Unfortunately, very little is known about the show at this point, but with the 2017 debut coming soon, hopefully more details will be released.
