Shootingbegan onTrainspotting 2back in March, but it hasn’t been until today that we’ve had any proof that production is up and running. Both video and photos have arrived from the set thanks to Twitter, and they show thatEwen Bremneris back as Spud. He doesn’t look much different from his time spent in the originalTrainspottingreleased way back in 1996. He will be joined in the movie by the rest of the original surviving cast, includingEwan McGregor,Johnny Lee Miller, andRobert Carlyle.

Also returning is directorDanny Boyle, who can be seen in some of the first photos from the set. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the originalTrainspotting. The sequel is currently shooting in both Leith and Gorgie, Scotland, where these images were snapped. One of the photos appears to show Spud begging on the street, and he still has his signature yellow glasses hanging off his face. Apparently, the actor had no trouble slipping back into character.

Also returning for this sequel isKelly MacDonald, who will reprise her role as Diane.Kevin McKiddis the only cast member fromTrainspottingwho won’t be back in front of the camera. And for good reason. His character Tommy passed away in the first movie. The screenplay forTrainspotting 2is based on authorIrvine Welsh’s follow-up novel toTrainspottingtitledPorno. ButBoylehas decided against using that as the title of his sequel for good reason. The movie will be a loose adaptation of the source material. But a different title will also clear up any confusion for those searching the movie on the Internet.

InPorno, Sick Boy, played byMiller, returns to Edinburgh with plans to make a porn movie with the help of his friend Renton, played byEwan McGregor. ButRobert Carlyle’s Begbie is hellbent on seeking revenge against the two after being released from prison. And Spud gets wrapped up in the whole mess, playing both sides. It isn’t known how much this new story will deviate from the book, or how differently things will play out in the end.

It’s been almost a full month since the movie begin shooting, and these are the first images we’re seeing. So we don’t know how accessible the set actually is, or if we’ll see the rest of the cast before the inevitable press materials start to flood in. There’s no telling when we might actually get to see a trailer forTrainspotting 2. The sequel arrives in 2017, but it doesn’t have a set release date at this time. Until we get to see the rest of the cast in costume, check outEwen Bremneras he settles back into these very comfortable shoes. This could be the rare sequel that’s better than the original.
