Just hours after reporting thatSony Pictures andMarvelhave narrowed down their choices to play the newSpider-Man,The Wraphas revealed which actors are in contention. The short list includesNat Wolff,Asa Butterfield,Tom Holland,Timothée ChalametandLiam James. Sony is expected to issue testing offers to several young actors next week, with a decision expected to come within the next two to three weeks, although it may take longer for the deal to become finalized.

None of the five aforementioned actors have received test offers, butThe Wrap’s sources claim they are “strong contenders” for the role at this point. When Sony andMarvelstruck their deal forSpider-Man, it was reported that the character will first appear in aMarvelmovie, which has long been believed to beCaptain America: Civil War. This new report essentially confirms thatSpider-Manwill be inCaptain America: Civil War, which starts shooting in two weeks, although the actor who playsSpider-Manwon’t be needed on set until June.

Drew Goddardis believed to be the front runner to direct the newSpider-Man, since he was originally set to directThe Sinister Sixspinoff. All we know about theSpider-Manreboot thus far is it will not be an origin story, although it will take the character back to high school, as he tries to navigate his crime-fighting gig with everyday high school life. If we do get an official casting announcement soon, perhaps the studios will also shed some light on the story as well.
