Back in February, Marvel and Sonymade the announcement that some fans have waited years for, thatSpider-Manis finally joining theMarvel Cinematic Universe. Right now, all we know is that the beloved character will debut first in an unconfirmedMarvelmovie, most likelyCaptain America: Civil War, before the Marvel and Sony producedSpider-Manmovie hits theaters August 13, 2025. While doing press forAvengers: Age of Ultronover the weekend, producerKevin Feigeoffered new details about how the studio plans on approaching the webbed wonder this time around. When asked about what exciting new things they want to bring forward with Spider-Man, the producer toldIGNthat he wants to see more of Spidey’s sense of humor.

“There are a lot things. It’s a testament to his character, that there have been five movies made already, over the past 13 years, and yet, there are so many things that are integral to his character in the comics, that have not been explored yet. That’s what’s most exciting. Batman was the same way. There had been four Batman movies over the years, and thenBatman Beginswas able to do something unique and tap into a side that hadn’t been seen before. It’s a similar thing, obviously, tonally, completely different than Batman, but we’re very excited about any number of things about Spidey and his standalone adventures, not the least of which being the notion of his sense of humor. When he puts that mask on, in the comics, he has a non-stop wit. That is almost as troublesome to the bad guys he’s fighting, as his webs and agility. We felt we haven’t seen that as much in the movies, and we’re excited about that.”

He also confirmed that we won’t be seeing yet another origin story for this beloved character, since fans are so familiar with it already. Before the announcement in February, there had been plenty of rumors suggesting that a plan was in the works for Marvel to bring Spidey back into the fold. Marvel had previously announced its immensePhase Threeslate back in October, but it wasn’t confirmed for several more months. During another interview with/Film,Kevin Feigesaid that had a number of alternatives in place, if they couldn’t secure the rights to Spider-Man.

“As you might have imagined, that had been in the works for a long, long, long, long time. And we had, as we often do, mapped out various alternatives if things don’t happen. So we had a plan how it would continue without him and we have a plan how now it will continue with him. I wouldn’t say it was “drastic” but we were certainly happy when it all came together.”

In yet another interview withBadass Digest, the producer was asked how long they actually haveSpider-Manin the MCU, since he is only confirmed to be in one Marvel movie before the Sony-distributed reboot. The site compared the possibility of Spidey appearing and then disappearing in the MCU to a character named Rom the Spaceknight, who vanished from the Marvel comics after the character’s license expired. WhileKevin Feigewouldn’t clarify how many Marvel movies Spidey will appear in, but he did say that everything is set through 2019.

“For as forward thinking as we always try to be, there’s only so far you’re able to tend to think, and our plan is fairly solid for those four or five years. I’ve never considered it in the Rom Spaceknight vernacular, necessarily. So much of the anxiety at Marvel has been ‘Who do we have contracts with, who is still involved’? You want to plot out all these years of imagination based on amazing comics, but you need real people to make time in their lives to do, and to make career decisions to do it. That has been the hardest thing to manage… but for the first time, that’s all settled. It’s all settled through [2019]. It’s all set. And we’re able to focus now just on [telling stories]. It’s everything we announced last October, and we’ve added your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to the mix… and it’s all set.”
