Beloved Hollywood superstarsKeanu ReevesandSandra Bullockreunited for a special screening of the hit 1994 action movieSpeed, with the latter offering an update on whether a threequel will ever happen. The screening took place at Beyond Fest as part of the American Cinematheque at Egyptian Theatre, with Reeves and Bullock coming together again in celebration of Speed’s 30th anniversary.
Reeves, Bullock and Speed director Jan de Bont have “never previously shared the same stage” according to a report byVariety, with Bullock revealing whether she thinks Hollywood is “brave enough” to make Speed 3 all these years later.

“The geriatric version. It won’t be fast. All these things happened because the crazy man in the greenish jacket over there. He’s so soft and gentle today and I’m like, that’s not the man I remember. But he’s the man who put the energy and the idea together, knew what the audience wanted and demanded it from everyone and everyone stepped up to play it. So what would that movie be that would make Jan’s brain and brilliance happy?
It would require a lot from everybody. I don’t know if we’re in an industry anymore that’s willing to tolerate it and be brave enough to do it. Maybe I could be wrong. … If he can’t make [what’s in his brain] for the audience, then he’s failed it felt like. I don’t know what we could do that would be good enough for the audience.”

Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock Have Expressed Interest in Speed 3
Released in 1994,Speedis based on the kind of wonderfully simple, high concept that action movie dreams are made of. Starring Keanu Reeves as LAPD SWAT officer Jack Traven, the arrogant cop finds himself at the whim of a terrorist out for revenge, whoputs a bomb on a bus. The kicker is, if the bus drops below 50 miles per hour, it’ll explode.
Speedwas met with critical acclaim and box office success, debuting at #1 and grossing $350.4 million against a budget of around $37 million, and winning Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Sound at the 67th Academy Awards. Part of the reason for its success was the charming duo of Reeves and Bullock, and while a sequel,Speed 2: Cruise Control, was released in 1997, Reeves’ absence resulted in the movie being considered one ofthe worst sequels of all time.

Speed Director Shares Honest Reflection on 1994 Hit: ‘Who Wants to See a Movie About a Bus?’
Original Speed director Jan de Bont reflects on the epic action film he debuted with and which put him in the spotlight of genre films.
While there is no word of another follow-up, and while Bullock may be right in thinking that it’s maybe too late, audiences would surely flock to theaters shouldJohn Wick’sKeanu Reeves andThe Lost City’sSandra Bullock come together again. For what it’s worth, both actors haveexpressed interest in returning forSpeed 3in the past.

During anappearance on the 50mph podcast, Reeves said, “I mean, you know — we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park,” when addressing a possible third outing, with Bullock replying, “There’s no formula. It just is. Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?”
