Things are getting more and more heated asTaylor Sheridan’s new mini-seriesSpecial Ops: Lionessnears its premiere date. With his prowess behind the camera and a star-studded cast leading the charge, this show is promising to be one of the most captivatingly tense spy drama thrillers in recent years. Per areport from Collider, a brand new trailer has dropped, giving us an even deeper look at the dangerous mission both Zoe Saldana and Laysla de Oliveira’s characters are embarking on to avoid another possible national catastrophe.

Special Ops: Lionessis the latest ambitious series project from renowned director Taylor Sheridan in his ongoing first look deal with Paramount. He’s best known for his acclaimed neo-Western drama seriesYellowstoneand its numerous spin-off series all currently in the works, such as both prequels titled1883and1923. This time, however, he’s stepping off the ranch and deep behind enemy lines for this CIA-esque spy thriller, which is based on an actual U.S. military program and tells the story of a relentless female Marine named Cruz who is tasked with going undercover alongside a fellow ‘Lioness’ named Joe and befriending the daughter of a suspected terrorist under surveillance. With the ultimate goal of thwarting the next 9/11, Cruz is willing to risk everything and do what must be done, even when she gets trapped with seemingly no way out. Starring in the series are Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) as Joe, Laysla de Oliveira (Needle in a Timestack) as Cruz Manuelos, Nicole Kidman (The Northman) as program head Kaitlyn Meade, Michael Kelly (House of Cards) as Donald Westfield, and Morgan Freeman (A Good Person) as President Edwin Mullins.
Saldana and Oliveira Track Their Prey in New Trailer
The trailer opens with Joe (Saldana) talking to her most promising recruit, a young woman named Cruz (Oliveira) who, devoid of family and friends, fiercely devotes herself to a selfless and noble commitment as a Marine. She gets tasked with not only tracking down and befriending the daughter of a suspected terrorist, but eliminating the terrorist himself. Joe, who feels especially protective of Cruz and ultimately goes undercover with her, still warns her that if she becomes compromised she’ll have to save herself. The deeper she goes, the more risk she faces, and inevitably the operation faces threats of exposure and countless innocent casualties. Scrambling to contain the fallout, the Lioness program must fight to save both the world and their own before it’s too late.
