There’s a new clown in town, and he’s just as messed up as the rest. Another fictional clown is making his way from the page to the big screen, and the only thing friendly about him is his name.Shudderis trying to continue their dominance of indie horror films with an upcoming novel adaptation that’s sure to make those with a fear of clowns sick to their stomachs. The horror producer and streamer has releasedthe first trailerforClown in a Cornfield,and it’s about as brutal and funny as you can imagine.

From theproducers ofSmilecomesClown in a Cornfield,which follows a daughter, played byGinny & Georgia’s Katie Douglas, and her father, played by Aaron Abrams (Hannibal), as they attempt to adjust to their new town that’s been broken by hardship and is now plagued by a clown named Frendo. Here’s the official synopsis of the film that is based on Adam Cesare’s horror novel trilogy of the same name:

“Quinn and her father have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time. Welcome to Kettle Springs. The real fun starts when Frendo the clown comes out to play.”

The film was directed byTucker & Dale vs. Evildirector Eli Craig, who also co-wrote the script with Carter Blanchard. Set to be releasedin theaters later this yearon May 9, the clown slasher film also stars Carson MacCormac, Will Sasso, and Kevin Durand.Check out the trailer below.
