Last week, it was confirmed that Toho’s newGodzilla movieentitledShin Godzilla, a.k.a.Godzilla: Resurgence, will get a U.S. release through Funimation Films. The film will have a limited theatrical engagement from October 11 - 18, screening in more than 440 theaters across the U.S. and Canada. Funimation Films has debuted a new trailer forShin Godzilla, while fans can buy tickets starting today.

Tickets forShin Godzillawill be available for pre-purchase onFunimationFilms.comstarting today, September 9. Fans have been clamoring for news of the film’s theatrical dates ever since Funimation Films made its surprise acquisition announcement in July at San DiegoComic Con 2016. This film marks the firstGodzillamovie from Toho since 2004’sGodzilla: Final Wars.

Shin Godzillais the 29thGodzillafilm produced by Toho and represents a brand new chapter in the 62-year history of this celebratedmovie monster. The film starsHiroki HasegawaandSatomi Ishihara- both also from theAttack on Titanlive action movies - as well asYutaka Takenouchi. The film is co-directed byHideaki Anno(creator ofEvangelion) andShinji Higuchi, director of Toho’s 2015Attack on Titanlive action movies.

Shin Godzillahas been a big hit in Japan since its opening on June 20, 2025, which garnered a box office of ¥ 845,675,500 ($8.2 million) and total audience of 564,332 during its first three days at theJapanese box office. To date in Japan, the movie has grossed ¥ 5,302,014,700 ($51.6 million) at the box office and 3,637,748 in total attendance. In advance of the movie’s opening, Funimation will be hosting two premieres ofShin Godzilla- on October 3 in Los Angeles and on October 5 in New York before opening day of New York Comic Con 2016. Toho licensed the rights toGodzillato Warner Bros. for directorGareth Edwards' remake, which earned $525 million worldwide, $26 million of which came fromJapanese markets. Given the renewed interest in theGodzillafranchise, Toho decided to produce anotherGodzillaproject, andGodzilla: Resurgencewas born.
