International superstarShakirais lending her Grammy-winning voice to Gazelle, the biggest pop star inZootopia,D23 Expofans learned via a taped message fromShakiratoday.Ginnifer Goodwin(ABC’sOnce Upon a Time,Something Borrowed,Walk the Line), the voice of the film’s rookie rabbit officer Judy Hopps, saluted fans alongside directorsByron Howard(Tangled) andRich Moore(Wreck-It Ralph), and producer Clark Spencer (Wreck-It Ralph). Hilarious new scenes from the film were unveiled, plus a tease of the all-new original song, “Try Everything,” written by singer-songwriterSiaand songwriting duoStargate, and performed byShakira.

The modern mammal metropolis ofZootopiais a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together-a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.

Disney has set a March 4, 2016release datefor theanimated movie, which will square off against Sony’sGrimsby, 20th Century Fox’sMiss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Childrenand Open Road Films’Triple Nine. It isn’t known when Disney plans on releasing theZootopiafootage that was shown to the D23 crowd earlier today.

The Gazelle role will markShakira’s feature film debut. Aside from her enormously successful music career,Shakirahas also served as one of the talented judges on NBC’s hitreality series,The Voice. It isn’t known at this time if the singer has any other movie roles in the works at this time.

In making the announcement ofShakira’s casting, Disney has also released our first look at her character Gazelle fromZootopia. Aside from being the biggest pop star in this animal-filled land, not much else is known about the character, so stay tuned for more details.
