Early reviews forScream VIshow that the slasher sequel is more intense than ever. The sixth installment of the franchise, which started withScream(1996), is a direct sequel toScream(2022) and follows the main cast of people that made it through the previous film to New York City, where a new Ghostface murderer has descended upon the town. The 2022 film was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who also directed the upcoming sequel.One week beforeScream VI’s official debut, critics and other pop culture personalities have been permitted to express their initial, spoiler-free responses to the movie online today. They all agree that the film doubled down on the blood and the terror and expressed their enthusiasm for it. Jenna Ortega Hints At a Scarier Ghostface in Scream VI
Ortega gave the audience a sneak preview ofScream VIin aninterview. Ortega said the new Ghostface is less “clumsy” than some other Ghostface killers. She cautions that thisGhostface is more savagethanScreamfans may be used to. While Ortega alerts that the new murderer will have more of an edge with darker and more tragic killings carried out this time around, it is not to imply that there won’t be any funny moments in the newScream. She said in the interview:
“I think Ghostface is a lot more of a scary figure. I feel like we’ve always seen him as kind of a clumsy, funny almost killer. Where I think in this one, he’s actually, a lot of the deaths are very visceral and very, kind of tragic in a sense, which kind of brought in this more dramatic atmosphere. But I still think we do a good job of balancing comedy and stuff like this, but I think audiences should be prepared for it to be a bit more of a roller coaster, more than anything.”
Scream VIwill be released in movie theaters next week on Mar. 10.
