Adult Swim is excited to announce that Jack is Back. Creator and executive producerGenndy Tartakovskycontinues the epic story ofSamurai Jackwith a new season that will premiere on Adult Swim’s Toonami block in 2016. The new season is currently in production in Los Angeles at Cartoon Network Studios. Adult Swim has released the firsttrailerfor the return ofSamurai Jack, along with a new poster.

Samurai Jack originally aired for four seasons on Cartoon Network, with a 52-episode run that aired between 2001 and 2004. The series is set in a distant land, following a great warrior displaced to the distant future by the evil shape-shifting wizard Aku. The world has become a bleak place under the rule of Aku, segregated into fantastic tribes and ruled by Aku’s evil robot warlords. Jack travels this foreign landscape in search of a time portal that can return him to his home time so he can “undo the future that is Aku!”

The original series featured Phil LaMarr voicing the title character, with Mako voicing the villainous Aku. Other voice cast members includeKevin Michael Richardson, Jeff Bennett,Tom Kenny, Grey Griffin, Jennifer Hale, Daran Norris,John Di Maggioand Sab Shimono. Novoice castmembers have been announced for the newTV seriesat this time.

Series creatorGenndy Tartakovskyrevealed way back in 2012 that Sony Pictures Animation was considering making ananimated movieadaptation ofSamurai Jack, but we haven’t heard anything about that project since then. The filmmaker recently directed the studio’sHotel TransylvaniaandHotel Transylvania 2, but we reported earlier this year that the studio will be makingHotel Transylvania 3without the director.Genndy Tartakovskyalso created beloved animated shows such as Dexter’s Laboratory and Sym-Bionic Titan.
