Just hours after theworld premierein Los Angeles last night, LucasFilm has released two new clips fromRogue One: A Star Wars Story, as we inch closer and closer to the December 16 release date. The first clip features the rescue of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), who is being held captive by a few Stormtroopers before Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) comes in to save her. Jyn doesn’t exactly show much gratitude for this rescue, though, taking out all of Andor’s soldiers and trying to escape, before she’s stopped by the droid K-2SO. The second clip features K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) piloting a ship, with Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) providing navigation along the way, which provides a reference to the original classic,A New Hope.

This second clip fromLucasFilmfeaturesK-2SOcontinuing to tell Cassian Andor and Bodhi Rook the “chances of failure,” which Andor reveals he doesn’t want to hear. While the exact words are obviously different, the scene is quite reminiscent of Han Solo’s (Harrison Ford) “never tell me the odds” line fromEmpire Strikes Back. The film is actually set several years beforeEmpire Strikes Back, set between the evnts ofRevenge of the Sithand the movie that started it all, the 1977 classicA New Hope.

Box office analysts have predicted thatRogue Onecould earn upwards of $130 million in itsopening weekend. That figure is a far cry fromStar Wars: The Force Awakens' record-breaking $247.9 million debut last December, but if it does match or exceed this prediction, it will still be a fantastic debut for a movie that enters uncharted territory in theStar Warsuniverse. This is the first stand alone movie in theStar Warscanon, with theHan Solospin-off coming i 2018, and LucasFilm also planning a third spin-off for 2020, which is rumored to center on the iconic bounty hunter Boba Fett. There have also been rumors that, after this new trilogy wraps up in 2019 withStar Wars: Episode IX, that the rest of theStar Warsmovies will be stand alone movies, after the Luke Skywalker saga is finally complete. That report has yet to be confirmed though.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of theStar Warsstandalone films,Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to theDeath Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves. This will be the firstStar Warsmovie that won’t have an opening crawl to kick off the movie, and also the firstStar Warsmovie that won’t be scored byJohn Williams, withMichael Giacchinocomposing the score.
