Eventually, most great Hollywood directors wind up tackling a war movie.Robert Zemeckisis finally going to put his stamp on a World War II drama withAlliednext month. With the release date approaching, Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer online giving us our best look at the movie so far.

Paramount Picturesuploaded the latest trailer forAlliedto their Youtube channel recently, which gives us a great look at the conflict thatBrad PittandMarion Cotillardwill be facing during the course of the movie. Previous trailers only gave us faint glimpses of the actual plot, but this trailer focuses very heavily on the layered, complex, emotional story. Max (Brad Pitt) and Marianne (Marion Cotillard) start out as undercover operatives who have to fake a marriage, but then fall in love and get married for real. However, things get dicey when it is revealed that Marianne may be a double agent. If that is indeed the case, Max will have to kill the woman he loves and the mother of his child in order to serve his country.

“In 1942, an intelligence officer in North Africa encounters a female French Resistance fighter on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. When they reunite in London, their relationship is tested by thepressures of war.”

Robert Zemeckisis best known for directing theBack to the Futuretrilogy, but over time has accumulated a body of work that could potentially make him one of the greats when it is all said and done. But much likeSteven Spielbergand evenChristopher Nolannow, he is about to tackle a World War II drama, a staple of many great directors throughout history. WhileRobert Zemeckishas never tackled material quite like this before, everything we have seen from the trailers leads us to believe he didn’t have any trouble with it.

Paramount Pictures is likely hoping that thestar powerthey have withBrad Pittcoupled with a beloved director likeRobert Zemeckiscan translate into a big box office haul in addition to some awards consideration. The studio is losing money left and right after a series of expensive bombs likeTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the ShadowsandBen-Hurfailed to deliver.Alliedis most definitely the kind of movie that can bring in the money the studio needs, assuming it is received well when it gets released next month.

Alliedwas written bySteven Knight, whose previous credits includeEastern Promises,LockeandPawn Sacrifice. The movie has a prime awards season-friendly release date on November 23, which will put it up against Disney’sMoanaandBad Santa 2. It should work as pretty decent counter-programming to both of those movies, but it will still be quite the crowded weekend at the box office.
