After years of largely failed attempts to reignite the franchise, the world of thePredatoris expanding following the release of the critically acclaimedPreyback in 2022. With the likes ofPredator: Killer of KillersandPredator: Badlandsnow on the horizon, fans have been left wondering whether we will see the return of Amber Midthunder’s Comanche warrior, Naru. Well, Midthunder herself has now offered a hopeful update…
Speaking to DiscussingFilm at the premiere of the animated anthology moviePredator: Killer of Killers,Amber Midthunderdeclared that she “would love to” return forPrey 2…but only under the direction ofPreydirectorDan Trachtenberg. After so successfully bringing the Predator back to screens withPrey, Trachtenberg has now been given the reins of the action sci-fi franchise and, as Midthunder all but states, in Trachtenberg we trust.

“Dan [Trachtenberg] is such a great director and, obviously, I think with what he created with Prey the first time, he can only be the one to be trusted with that again. I would love to do that.”
New ‘Predator’ Movie’s First Reactions Tease a Bloody Great Monster Hit Coming to Streaming
Dan Trachtenberg’s new ‘Predator’ movie is ready land on Hulu on June 6, and the first reactions are in.
Released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu original film back in 2022,Preyhas reignitedthe strugglingPredatorfranchise, dropping the alien hunter 1719 and pitting it against Amber Midthunder as Naru, a young Comanche warrior. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison,Preyfollows Amber Midthunder as a skilled Comanche warrior who must protect her tribe from a highly evolved alien predator that hunts humans for sport, fighting against wilderness, dangerous colonizers and this mysterious creature to keep her people safe.

Dan Trachtenberg Has Now Taken the Reins of the ‘Predator’ Franchise
Preywas met with critical acclaim upon release and now stands at a hugely impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. While it was reported back in February last yearthatPrey 2was in the works, not much has been revealed since. However, Dan Trachtenberg has offered some insight into his approach to a possible follow-up, with the filmmaker determined to continue his aspirations to make something “cool” once again.
“For everyone who’s been asking me about sequels, it’s like, that is the thing, is that oftentimes someone does a cool thing and the sequel is just….and then the next part, and then it’s like, oh, well then that’s just following up the cool. That isn’t what that thing was. And so yes, in thinking about what sequels could be, the primary conversation was and always will be, what we can do that is also special, that hasn’t happened yet. Not just for the Predator franchise, but for this kind of genre in particular. Can we still be doing something cool?"

Trachtenberg is currently rather busy with several Predator projects. Theanimated anthology movie,Predator: Killer of Killers, finds the alien hunter going up against Vikings, Samurai, and a World War II pilot, and is due to be released on Hulu and Disney+ on June 6. Trachtenberg will also helm thelive-actionPredator: Badlandsstarring Elle Fanning, which is due to be released in theaters on July 12, 2025.
