In thePirates of the Caribbeanseries, Bloom played Will Turner, the blacksmith’s apprentice who falls in love with Elizabeth Swann amid the invasion of the ghostly pirates (his character was only absent in part 4,On Stranger Tides). While there have been rumors about the possible return of the franchise, nothing has been confirmed. As fans wait for news, Bloom adds fuel to the fire and says that he wants to get everyone back for a newPirates of the Caribbeanmovie.
TheTroyactor is likely referring to Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley, who played Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann in the series. Per a report by Comic Book, Bloom appeared on the showThis Morning, and he was asked about reprising his role as Turner. “There’s been all kinds of things,” the actor says, adding more doubt to what’s already an uncertain brew of rumors and news. “Who knows? There’s been talk [of a sixth movie]. I can’t say anything at the moment, because I really don’t know.” Nevertheless, he shares his personal take, saying that he prefers to return alongside his crew:
I think they’re trying to work out what it would all look like. I, personally, think it would be great to get the band back together. I think that would be great. But there are always different ideas, so we’ll see where it lands.
Pirates of the Caribbeanran from 2003 to 2017, with five consecutive movies that made more than $4.5 billion in total at the box office. The critical reception was good at first, withThe Curse of the Black Pearlgetting a solid Certified Fresh label and 79% on Rotten Tomatoes. By the end of the franchise, things had waned, andDead Men Tell No Talesstill holds 30% on the review aggregator. The franchise only received one Academy Award throughout its run, whenDead Man’s Chestwon an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category.

A full reboot has always been among the possibilities when trying to revive thePirates of the Caribbeanfranchise. However, it is simply too risky to reboot without the presence of its most important player. Depp’s Jack Sparrow was a fantastic character that became a part of pop culture in the 2000s, and it’s the actor’s most important film role in modern times. It was Depp’s first Academy Award nomination, and while he didn’t win,Depp has proudly worn the pirate costumeagain for much better reasons.
