After a failed movie adaptation, Percy Jackson is set to triumphantly return to the screen withPercy Jackson and the Olympians. Although this time will be on the small one, dragged from the shadows by Disney+ in a series that promises to stay close to the source material and has author Rick Riordan working behind the project. There’s still a long way to go for the show to arrive at the streaming service since filming wrapped up just a couple of weeks ago, and it has a lot of post-production to do to deliver some quality content. But it seems like some footage is ready and is generating some emotional reactions. At least that’s for Riordan’s wife, Becky, who got to enjoy the first director cut of the series and shared her reaction onTwitter:

“Starting off the day with some not so hard work. I get to watch two new director’s cuts! These are far from being polished and more like uncut diamonds but is fun to watch them get cut into the final sparkling episodes they will become. Backstory in these episodes made me cry.”

The new cast for Disney+’s Percy Jackson series

“Imagine when the final episodes are released and ALL of us are wearing our not so waterproof (blue!) mascara so we can take selfies of the makeup rivulets running down our cheeks.”

Everything We Know About Percy Jackson and the Olympians So Far

Percy Jackson’s novelsare one of the countless current attempts to update Greek mythology for the 21st century, in the case of Rick Riordan, from an openly fantastic and youthful genre. Throughout the five installments, we see how a present-day boy named Percy Jackson discovers that the ancient gods and myths are real and that he is a demigod, like Hercules, and is the son of Poseidon and a human.

The setting is, however, contemporary, with an Olympus located on the 600th floor of the Empire State Building and a Half-Blood Camp for training demigods like Jackson. There he will meet his best friends, the satyr Glover and the daughter of Athena, Annabeth Chase. Together they will live exciting adventures to save the world from Cronos, the king of the Titans.

Percy Jackson and the Olympiansstars Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, and Leah Sava Jeffries as the leading young trio. Joining them will be Megan Mullally, Jason Mantzoukas, Virginia Kull, Timm Sharp, Gabe Ugliano, Glynn Turman, Toby Stephens, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jay Duplass, Timothy Omundson, and Adam Joseph Copeland.
