8Young Ian

Young Ian (John Bell) is the nephew of one of the main characters of this story, Jaime (Sam Heughan, possible James Bond contender). He is the youngest son of Jaime’s sister with his father, Ian (hence the Young before his name). Young Ian is a very impressionable man who adores his uncle to the point of almost adoration. He is kind but rather naive at times, and will make a lot of trouble when he spends more time with his favorite family member.

Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) is a part of the Mackenzie clan. He is Jaime’s godfather, having been a close friend to his mother. He is an honorable man who will not think about the costs when protecting his loved ones. He may appear distant at first, but as soon as he starts to care for someone, his more gentle and sweet side appears. Murtagh is an excellent fighter and usually one of the brave men in the front row of any battlefield that fights for justice.

6Colum Mackenzie

Colum Mackenzie (Gary Lewis) is the leader of the Mackenzie clan. He was born with a disease called Toulouse-Lautrec Syndrome, a degenerative disease which makes the legs of the patient immobile and causes great pain. Due to that, he has to rely on his brother Dougal regarding more physical needs his role has, including on the battlefield. A character that has deep emotional wounds as a consequence of disrespect for him because of his disease, he will not tolerate any kind of mockery.

5Dougal Mackenzie

Dougal Mackenzie (Graham McTavish) is Column’s brother. He is the war chief of the Mackenzie clan in 1745 and tends to resolve matters in vicious ways. The man who taught his nephew, Jaime, everything he knew about war (from how to fight to strategize on the battlefield), Dougal is known for his tendency of enjoying violence in many forms. He is not devoid of kindness, but his brute way of dealing with things and people will keep others away from him.

4Jonathan Randall

Jonathan Randall (Tobias Menzies) is a British general from the 1700s. He is ruthless and will do whatever it takes to get what he wants, including torturing people to death. His temper is easily crossed, and he quickly became known as one of the generals to be feared the most. Randall has attractions that he can’t comprehend, making an already brutal man even more deadly. There is a sense of impending catastrophe every time Randall’s name is mentioned, or his red uniform appears on the screen.

3Frank Randall

Frank Randall (also played by Tobias Menzies) is Claire’s husband. He is a history professor who helped the British army in the war. He is a very intelligent and practical person. Frank, unlike ancient family members, is kind and cares about what people say to him - especially Claire. As a historian, he loves to dig into his family’s past, but some things are too dark to be in history books. Including his ancestor Jonathan Randall, who was a part of the Jacobite Rising of 1745.

2Jaime Fraser

Jaime Fraser (Sam Heughan) is a highlander from an ancient line of noble connections, the Mackenzie clan. He lives in Scotland in 1745. Jaime is a man of honor and will protect his family (and English foul mouth ladies that appear in the middle of nowhere) with everything he has got. A born and raised soldier, Jaime will have to fight battles on more occasions than he expects - including his wedding day. With a troubled past, Jaime doesn’t let his scars (some quite literal) define who he is and what he is made of.

1Claire Beauchamp

Claire will find the true meaning of love on this trip, and it may not be with her husband or in the 1940s.
