There was also another big mistake that was revealed last night after the In Memoriam segment, where it was revealed that the entry for late costume designerJanet Pattersonactually featured a photo of the very aliveJan Chapman.Janet Pattersonhad passed away in October at the age of 60.

WhileJan Chapman’s name and occupation were in fact correct on theOscars In Memoriam tribute, the picture was not, with the Academy usingJan Chapman’s photo instead ofJanet Patterson’s image.Varietyobtained an email statement fromJan Chapman, who reveals she was “devastated” the wrong photo was used during the segment. Here’s what the producer had to say below.

“I was devastated by the use of my image in place of my great friend and long-time collaboratorJanet Patterson. I had urged her agency to check any photograph which might be used and understand that they were told thatthe Academyhad it covered. Janet was a great beauty and four-time Oscar nominee and it is very disappointing that the error was not picked up. I am alive and well and an active producer.”
