As the new year approaches, plenty of films are slated to hit various streaming platforms.Netflix, in particular, has quite a few offerings that will undoubtedly be worth exploring. While no two movies appear to be similar in the slightest, they are each sure to provide something for everyone as the new year begins. Given themovies that came to Netflix in Decemberoffered every holiday film under the sun, it’s no surprise January’s offerings are anything but cheery or joyful, at least for the most part.
With a wild documentary about a con involving cryptocurrency, an impossible survival film, a movie about love and grief in the wake of death, an action-packed heist movie filled with plenty of comedy, and a dystopian film set on the streets of London, Netflix has a wide range ofgreat original filmssure to entertain a myriad of audiences. As such, opting for a movie to stream at home rather than venture to something playing on the big screen is likely to take the cake, given Netflix’s January lineup of original films.

ANetflix true-crime documentary,Bitconneddetails the rise of Centra Tech and the men, founders Sohrab Sharma, Robert Farkas, and Raymond Trapani, behind the smoke and mirror company. By exploiting the wild west of cryptocurrency, the company managed to scam $25 million from investors during an illegal initial coin offering (ICO).
However, the funds only seemed to finance their lavish lifestyles. Seemingly the first of its kind, the company created debit cards, allowing people to spend their cryptocurrency in real-time. However, the company started to crumble as the New York Times began investigating claims from Visa that Centra Tech was illegally offering cards with their name. Soon after, the company’s fall from grace was inevitably speedy.

Far from civilization and unprepared for such harsh conditions, their limits are tested as they look to one another for hope.
Unfortunately, something more tragic ultimately emerges. Without food, the group resorts to cannibalism when a potential rescue appears farther and farther out of reach. Although distressing, their gripping tale details the nuances of their survival and their efforts to never give up.

Stocked with the latest tech, the film appears to be something akin toThe Italian JoborOcean’s Eleven, which means it’ll surely be a humorously action-packed ride and hopes to become one of thebest heist movies on Netflix.
